Got to be the most famous drum solo of all time,
Just in case you never heard it

Bombora(1963) - by Aussie surf band, The Atlantics.

Drummer is Peter Hood.

The band retired from touring in 2013, after 50 years.

Steady, drivin' man - Phil Rudd AC/DC.

Love all the "classics". Here's one from the newer metal side .. Matt Greiner from August Burns Red

Woow! Came across Ronald Bruner Jr. Oh my he is good! Can someone beat this level of control and skill?

Metallica is the prime example.
Lars Ulrich played some charmingly-quirky beats in his career, but without the supreme songwriting of the rest of the band he would have ended up forgotten. When you see him live it's obvious he can't really hold anything more than a simple beat. Actually, I think a lot of riffs from the early thrash days sound so broken not because of some advanced rhythmic abilities, but because lars came up with weird drum lines that didn't quite resolve to 4/4, without realizing it. It's still a debate to this day what exact time signature is used in the song Master of Puppets (hint: is involves booze).

Lol.
Brings to mind something Matt Cameron (Soundgarden, Pearl Jam) once said when asked for his opinion of Lars Ulrich's skill, "Well I've heard he's a great tennis player..."

Bill Bruford of Yes, King Crimson, much more.

Just wow. Listened several times on headphones and just now the first time with my Genelec 8020/Kef PS2200 Sub and drove them to the highest SPL I can remember. Wow. This guy can play, and the desktop system delivers.:D Next time on the big system ...

Check out Bemsha Swing on Monk's Brilliant Corners. He swings with tympani. Swings. With tympani.

This dude.

Danny Carey can play 4 different time signatures with each limb simultaneously- and with accuracy. Not 4/4 and 2/4 mind you, we are talking 9/7, 11/5 - crazy Indian rhythms. Almost superhuman.

I read somewhere that when someone asked Neal Peart about who he wish he could play like (takes big balls to ask that question btw), he said Danny Carey, no question. I particularly like his playing on "The Pot."
