Here we do measurements, and you measure the level between love and hate by the number of "likes" one receives. :D:p

Anybody ever watch this guy on You Tube? Garey Williams is a professional drum teacher and reacts to and comments on some famous drummer performances. Here's him watching a Neal Peart solo.
Brought tears to my eyes!!

Triple WoW!!!!

I am no musician but looooove music and Neal Peart and John Bonham playing always jumped to me .. Their playing were/are that kind of insanely good!!

A couple more New Orleans guys:
Johnny Vidacovich
AJ Hall in Jon Cleary's band

The Gavin Harrison guys know their stuff.
Yes, Gavin Harrison.
Well played sir, well played.

So many. Elvin Jones, of course; Roy Haynes (still alive and playing!); Keith Moon (neither); Chick Webb; Clive Bunker; Mickey Roker... and though many would laugh, I would definitely throw Ringo Starr into the mix.

I've been a pro drummer for over 50yrs and I'll add a few names I haven't seen mentioned that are my personal influences. Not necessarily the best, but who I learned by listening to over the years and try to integrate into my own playing. Mitch Mitchell, Bobby Colomby, Buddy Harmon, Steve Gadd, and Jeff Porcaro. I believe Gene Krupa and Hal Blaine have already been used and are in that same category. Musical vs technical drumming is still a hot debate among pros and nobody combines the best of both as we all steal from each other.

EDIT: Forgot to give honorable mention to the man in the drum chair for Steely Dan since 2003 -

Gadd & Mitchell, good call.

Danny Carey was already mentioned (IMO, Mike Portnoy could not serve as his drum tech/roadie).
Abe Cunningham also has wicked grooves:

I always thought the drumming by the Dutch band Focus with Pierre van der Linden was interesting, as was that on Golden Earring's Radar Love.

My favourite drummer though, if I have one, is Bob Henrit, simply because he wrote a really good book about his life as a drummer with various bands, notably Argent and The Kinks.

One thing about getting a better Hi-Fi system and set up is a greater appreciation of drumming and bass playing - actually probably all aspects of music but perhaps it's more noticeable because the former are less obvious on a poor system.

Favorites: Portnoy, Bruford, Moon, Baker, Bozzio, Cobham, &Tony Williams.

Best lists would have to include Bonham and Peart. Maybe Grohl too.
Terry Bozzio is mesmerizing when he does a solo surrounded by his wall of drums.

This is so true. It's why I heartily recommend subs for most any system. There is so much energy in modern recordings down there, it has expanded my appreciation for other styles of music based on this alone. Being able to pressurize a room and feel the bass adds a whole new dimension to my music enjoyment.
