Local pickup in Chicago only. I will not ship these. If you are interested I am more than happy to let you listen to them.
I have a pair of Morrison Audio Model 19.1 speakers with Model 29 tweeter units that were installed after I blew the original tweeters being an idiot. Basically you get the midwoofers from the previous generation and tweeters from the current generation.
These are very good speakers engineered with the same attention to principles of speaker design that are so important on this site. However, these are omnidirectional speakers and maintain constant omnidirectional directivity across the entire audible frequency spectrum. As far as I know they are one of very few speakers that actually accomplish this. They are true omnidirectional point sources, not "omnidirectional" speakers with multiple drivers firing every which way and creating a mess of lobing and comb filtering. The sound coming out of them is identical in every direction.
The effect this has on listening is uncanny. These are the most "disappearing" speakers I have ever heard, and their imaging is extremely holographic. With the right kind of music it sounds like there are real performers and real instruments in your room (it's a "they are here" sort of sound as opposed to "you are there.") Moreover, their timbre is consistent wherever you go. You can walk around your house and the sound does not change. They would make excellent speakers for parties or background music when you don't have time to sit down and critically listen. I am single and rarely have a bunch of guests over, so this doesn't mean anything to me.
The speakers are not in the best condition. The gloss finish has a bunch of dings in it from the previous owner having no clue how to package speakers for shipping. However, they still work fine.
The speakers have no built-in crossover and must use external crossovers. You can use the passive crossovers that come with them, but I will also throw in a DBX PA2 active crossover. It is highly recommended that you use the active crossover to get the best sound. The tweeters were specially designed for these speakers and can be crossed over at 1000Hz (less than 1/4 wavelength in distance from the midwoofer, which is how point source directivity is maintained even vertically). If you use the active crossovers you will need to supply four channels of amplification.
Included are the speakers, lids that don't fit with the new tweeters, stands, protective cloth socks, passive crossovers, a DBX PA2, and four cables with Speakon connectors.
