Extreme Snake Oil

I was just engaging in that power outlet thread and challenging th OP’s assertion that “the sound of gold-plated phosphor bronze has a very smooth, lightly warmish tone and quality.”

:D

That "pleasing" audible distortion effect is mostly due to the common mode voltage created by the Seebeck effect across those two dissimilar metals.
Hmm..
I should market bismuth wall sockets with their "sonic purity matched" antimony plugs.
Do you think if I priced it as a very reasonable $10,666 a set the golden ears will dismiss it as being too inexpensive to have any benefits?

He is a heretic, don't listen to him!

One has to properly align the flow of the electrons for sonic purity, which can only be done with proper sighted listening.

The hyper-spacial audible nirvana has four simple rules:
  • ALL of the screws (not just the outlet) along the facing wall control the width of the sound stand.
  • ALL of the screws (not just the outlet) along the left wall control the depth of the right sound stage. No, that is not a mistake.
  • ALL of the screws (not just the outlet) along the right wall control the depth of the left sound stage. No, that is not a mistake.
  • ALL of the screws (not just the outlet) along the back wall need to be adjusted until your tri-mode Sankara Stones (you do have those, right?) glow at their brightest.
If you need assistance we can do a teleChatGtb session at a modest rate of $4,575 per 15 min.

Note: The reason is the glowing Sankara Stones create a wormhole in the space time continuum. The sound field forms a geodesic dome which is projected through this wormhole. What was on the left is now on the right, and vice-a-versa.
Well, shoot. When I built my current listening space, I used Phillips head drywall screws. How should I line those up (after I have removed the mudding)? Or do I need to go get flat head drywall screws?

What? You havn't upgraded to 12 point screws???

The best way is to listen. Turn each of the screws individually in one degree increments and listen to a Diana Krall recording after each turn. Your goal is to position her to sit in your lap as closely as possible.

That sounds like a really dodgy porn game :p

The overlap between Diana Krall & porn game is rather substantial, I reckon.

It is a baffling coincidence that sound "colour" always matches the colour of the metal that is conducting the signal.
The influence can be more physical or chemical. Everyone knows that silk domes have a silky sound, and metal domes sound metallic. You can listen to different drivers with annular diaphragms; the plastic sound, depending on the material, can have a tone from more ketonic to more ethereal!
@gnarly, can your hear\describe the difference between BMS 459X and DCX464? In terms of etheriality .

My Focal beryllium tweeters are incredibly light and airy sounding if I am relaxed. But I can only sit rigid for so long before I get a toxic mouthfeel.

I get a toxic mouthfeel
Get rid of them. PET plastic is safe, eco-friendly and hypoallergenic:

Here is a worker gathering PET for annular diaphragms:

NB: He he is trained to choose uncolored specimens preventing sound coloration.!

Copper or gold is always warm.
Silver is bright.
Gunmetal blue makes you sad.

I have long suspected that myself, such as the rose-gold Conrad Johnson faceplates related to their reputation for a “golden glow” to the sound. And I’m a Conrad Johnson fan.
(I don’t get to see my amps when I’m listening, since they are in a separate room, but I do like the Conrad Johnson look).

Plus you know that warm glow from the tubes is softly raining into the music. :p

The snake oil crowd are always looking for a gimmick. Carbon nanotube conductors, meh. I recall the extended debate I had on the Stereophile forums regarding the Teo Audio liquid metal "cables". Basicaly, they were surgical rubber tubes filled with Galinstan, the same hypereutectic alloy found in thermometers. This alloy has conductivity that is noticably inferior to copper but that didn't slow down the hype! Of course the sound was "smooth and flowing" similar to the words used to describe other conductors based on their appearance. Sadly, the exchange between myself and the Teo fanboi have been erased from the interwebs but boy oh boy it was the best audiophool baiting I ever participated in!! :D

Might want to check the Wayback Machine at archive.org (if you have or can make an educated guess of the URL) :)
