Extreme Snake Oil

Up to a certain diameter cables to brag with make even sense - in an awkward way. Beyond that point it’s comical. We are well within the city limits of loony town!

But they are sold only on the basis that cost the earth, and that they sparkle.
Jewellery isn't marketed as a (pretend) upgrade to a hi-fi system though.
You forget that jewelry is always an upgrade and/or compensates for something.
Realistically, jewelry is completely unnecessary and has no real use.
And the advertising for it is either sexist or intended to arouse desire.

Regardless of that it does not claim to do things it can't physically do.

The jewellery salesmen may well extoll the virtues of the craftsmanship of, say, a ring, but he won't try to tell you that it putting it on will turn you invisible.

This is not true of expensive audio cables where bogus claims of their abilities are mandatory. That's the difference.

Also, much of the social importance of jewelry comes from it being the only property women could own in many western cultures up until relatively recent times.

The BS guidelines for how much you should spend on cables as a percentage of your system cost is very similar to the BS guidelines on how much you should spend on an engagement ring based on your income. Both are designed pressure you and squeeze as much money out of you as they can get away with.

My system with the Stillpoints Ultra ESS rack somehow knows when to produce more bass depth with more resolution, texture and resonance at the right time. Yet another time, rein it in, all in proportion and with magical balance and empathy.

Ugh!

Online influencer culture is turning that consumerism brainwashing dial up to 11 and melting even more brains.

For example in the PC DIY circles there are some who actually thinks something as recent as an Intel 12th gen i5s is a "slow" gaming CPU...I'm like WTF are they even smoking? In this age where even 15 year old CPUs can comfortably clear the 60 fps mark?

I mean like dude, I started DIY at 1990s where even a 1 year old CPU would be lucky to hit double digit frame rates in the-then latest games. Now that's what actual slow is. Half-Life 1 is literally a powerpoint slideshow if you actually tried running that on official minimum system requirements.

Dealing with braindead actual humans is one problem. On the other side there is an army of LLMs / AIs learning from online stuff like this, general esoteric BS, astrology and god (this is another problem) knows what. We all are doomed …

Not sure if I want to live on this planet any longer.

The current AI voice recognition at the Microsoft phone activation service is so bad it doesn't recognize a simple "yes" half the time.

lmfao

Only forty-seven thousand dollars too. Just wasting the potential of your expensive equipment if you don't add such an affordable tweak.

Performance of all equipment is improved ofc not just the sound from the turntable. Even though that's a physical impossibility that should be obvious to a bright ten year old.

It must be an amazing piece of engineering if it can distinguish the resonances in the components from the power supply and music signal and only filter out/damp the former.

I wonder where WBT manufactures its connectors (they haven't produced cables for 30 years), their site only shows one assembly location. For all other wiring manufacturers the answer is Asia. Some IEC connectors sold for over $100 can be found -without the label- at around 5 on AE...

Out of academic ;) curiosity -- how does one know that the "5" versions aren't lookalike knock-offs?

It is a weird world where people have multiple salespeople that they think of as 'friends' or 'helpful' with them all the time.

How true! When money is involved, people want to maximize their self-interest and minimize their culpability. :)
