Extreme Snake Oil

Hey man, who appointed you guys the audio police.
Citizens arrest in this case with a 5150 suggestion! Make that a 5250, two-week hold and make sure they take their meds. :)

... flat cable? why? why is this configuration preferred ....
The flat cables are comprised of uni-directional wires with some distance between each other. That distance creates increased conductance while also fosters decreased capacitance.

Should capacitance go up then there is a greater amount of current which the amplifier has to deliver as the musical sound's frequency goes up. Speaker tweeter coils' inductance influences impedance which interacts with capacitance, while at low frequencies where impedance goes lower connector capacitance is of little importance.

Basically the less capacitance in the wired connection then the less the possibility an amplifier might oscillate from trying to put out more current for high frequency swings of music. High capacitance connections' undesirable effect is related to potentially challenging the amp's capability; thus the flat cable premise is that by preventing any amp instability the upper frequencies' sound is always ideally precise (sounds best). To me it is an example of the precautionary theory which underlies the introduction of flat cable - a conceptual solution in search of a problem in regard to most of our systems.

Pricing like this and high-end audio always stretch me is coming off like a dare.

Like someone in the company lost a bet “ I dare you to price it at and see if anyone will buy it” or just accompany sing to the public “ we dare you to buy this thing at this price!”

Don’t know how these people sleep at night
Tobacco and oil company executives seem to sleep just fine. Compared to the havoc they have wreaked on public health and endangering our surivial as a civilisation, respectively, selling overpriced cables is taking the capitalist high road.

Speaking of snake oil, I came across this snippet: behind-the-scenes of James Randy exposing faith healer Peter Popoff. Quite interesting as I’ve never seen those details:

It made me think of Amir being the current “ guy” for exposing snake oil, in terms of audio.

And those are still my favourite videos of his, when he exposes extravagant boutique cables in the like.

And yet...

This accessory will certainly be seen as snake oil here, but I would still be curious to know if anyone understands how it could possibly work...

Notice how the documentation states that "To maintain its performance, the EMI PROTECTOR it should be connected to the grid with the 12V power supply once a year for approx. 15 minutes."

but I would still be curious to know if anyone understands how it could possibly work...
It cannot.

That note in the documentation is a clever way to uphold faith in the uninitiated customer that they weren't completely ripped off.

"If it requires regular maintenance, then it must be effective"

It works to shift money from your pocket to the seller. Beyond that, not so much.

I would still be curious to know what's inside... First of all, what could a once a year 15 minute charge actually "charge"?

All you really need to know is that the same company sells fuses, atomic ones.

I get all this, but I am just curious to know if there is anything it COULD theoretically do? I don't care what customers think. I'm just curious to know of it could do anything with a once a year 15 minute charge...

Perhaps it's a question for engineers.

Yes definitely needs an engineer, in the mean time…
Quote,
‘If after a while you once want to hear the performance of your system without your EMI PROTECTOR, the buffering effect absolutely has to be considered. If the EMI PROTECTOR is switched off for a short time only, it still takes effect because of the buffering of the power supply unit.
Disconnect the 12V power supply (if connected) from the power grid and the EMI PROTECTOR resp. Remove the antenna, place the unit on the floor (best stored on the side) and set the middle switch POWER to position 0. Keep these conditions for several hours, preferably overnight. This way you achieve that the EMI PROTECTOR has no effect any more.
Upon recommissioning the interfering fields will be cleared again fast.’

That seems to be in contradiction with what they state in the manual (as quoted in my first post). So we can assume this thing only works powered but has some limited storage capacity. What could it possibly do? Analyze the received high frequencies, and then what? How do you then "attenuate" them? Does it work like a scrambling device? But outside wifi and cellular frequencies, as users report that it does not interfere with those ?
