External mic for Wiim Ultra room correction?

It seems to me that any half-decent USB microphone should produce better results with Wiim UItra room correction than my phone's mic. Is there anyone here who has tried this, and can comment on the differences in the corrected EQ curve vs the phone mic?
 
The mic in most phones is pretty good. But a calibrated measurement mic comes with a calibration-correction file for that particular mic. The mic itself doesn't have to be flat because it's automatically corrected.

I don't know anything about Wiim room correction, but REW can use the calibration file.

But somebody mentioned that low frequency room modes are way worse than most mics so an uncalibrated mic can still be useful.

...A (calibrated) USB mic has a potential advantage over an analog mic because it's calibrated for SPL as well as frequency response. With an analog mic, the digital level depends on preamp gain so you can't measure SPL without using an SPL meter to make your own calibration and then you can't touch the gain control.
 
I wondered the same a few days ago. i found recommendations for the Dayton Audio imm-6c mic, which is cheap, but not available in my location.
I also found a freq. response graph for a similar phone to get an idea what might be false correction if i use my phone (https://www.dxomark.com/samsung-galaxy-s24-ultra-audio-test/). But i've still no clue what to do now.

dayton mic can be bought from audiophonics in france

What to buy ? Just the cheap one since it doesn't matter if it's usb c or mini jack ?


 
The USB one should just work. The mini jack one relies on the mic input of the phone's mini-jack input, or that of whatever dongle you are using. We rarely see these measured, so it's not clear whether they include filtering, say to reduce wind noise in its normal use with a headset mic.

No wind noise, i think you would use something else if you need to use a wiim unit to do room correction outside

According to the comparison thread you posted, the calibration tool works for both the mini-jack and USB-C versions if you select iMM-6 and enter the serial number. It also has good advice about using an extension cable rather than plugging the mic directly into the phone - I hadn't thought to mention it because the UMIC-1 comes with a long USB cable. Using a boom mic stand is also a better idea than a little desktop stand for the same reason - the nearby surface will change the frequency response.

It's not about doing room correction outside, it's about some phones not having a flat frequency response on their mini-jack mic input. Those phones have filters on the mic input to make them work better in their intended use with a headset mic. That makes them unsuitable for room correction with the mini-jack iMM-6.
 
wiim takes 2 min and you have to walk around, musiccast room correction takes max 30 sec
