If I remeber right, although the DBR is more uneven FR, it's roughly parallel off axis. Good choice. I would go for a KEF unit for this experiment myself, but the choice is good enough to make the point.
If you took the crossover out of the elac, and replaced it with linear phase convolution based active crossover and a power amp per driver, then summed it flat on axis using psychoacoustic targeting. Yes.
assuming there was no audible distortion from chooing poorer quality electironics, and you limited SPL to low levels, in terms of only using current best provable evidence only, it would have a strong chance in a blind A/B test yes.
Is that what you were looking for?
In my personal use, the answer would be no, as
1) The genelec is not SPL capable enough for my use.
2) The Elac cannot produce the spl needed for my use without distortion becoming clearly audible.
3) From my own anecdotal personal experience, when all equipment in the chain is audiably perfect or close, I am of the opinion that you can hear differences in music at well under 1% distortion between 700hz and 7khz. Wether it is THD or Crossover topology and group delay that I can hear differences in is hard to say, but designing your own speakers/crossovers with very high quality drivers is a eye opener. For me, I feel voices can be more real on ultra low distortion drivers like the JBL D2430k and Radian 951be.
