Eversolo T8 Digital Transport!

Maybe buy a DAC cable for the connection to the sfp port of the switch. (DAC.. as in direct attach cable). Very cheap. (Or are those sfp+ only?)

SFP is versatile , you may use copper, fibre (plastic or glass) or whatever transmitting medium is offered.
I use one on my switch for 10GB transmission to my server (that has a simple old school Ethernet card and plug, no SFP).
A big disadvantage is this stuff is burning energy like hell (getting hot even on idle).

Btw all my network cables are orange, as it's standard with CAT7 :cool:

An SFP connection is not going to make your music better or quicker to come out of your speakers .. Still no idea why it’s on Hifi equipment :) I wonder if it will be present on the Z10?

DAC = Copper
AOC = Fibre

The only possible point of the SFP cage on the T8 is to offer the ability to optically isolate it from a network (I'm not suggesting that this is in any way required, i'm just pointing out why it is there from a marketing perspective). There is therefore no point plugging a DAC into the SFP cage, you might as well use the RJ45 port.

In my previous audiophile life, there was a "thing" about using a Cisco 2960 network switch. It was claimed to make a difference, something to do with IGMP snooping. It has an SFP port, which I think was claimed to be the best option. I bought said 2960 as a used buy, and I still use it today although never tried the SFP option. Can't say it made a difference though.

In fact, having tried things like this, a few of the cheaper cable "upgrades" and found they made no difference is what led me to ASR.

Just saying that if he really wanted to use the sfp port (maybe attaching a second network for whatever reason.. I know it's unlikely) a dac even if copper would be cheapest way.. like 10 bucks and done. As long as tht's compatible with sfp. The port wouldnt even know about the actual medium./, right? Could of course also be an active optical "direct" cable.. still cheaper than 2 real sfps (let alone the power they draw)

Also.. why didn't they use sfp+ that's everyday tech nowerdays...?

Just ordered the new Eversolo T8 which is a digital transport, a streamer/dac without the dac.
It looks pretty smart( expensive though £1200) and I am hoping it will be able to send a digital signal to my active speakers that already have DAC built in.
Thorbjørn’s Sarannas,Mantas and SBS, Dutch&Dutch etc.
It arrives tomorrow, Eversolo suggest pairing with their new Z10 dac available later this year.

Can you confirm or deny whether the T8 shows album art when playing local files via dlna. There is nothing in the manual or in any of the forums i have perused.
Thanks, in advance

By ‘local files’ you mean music you have ripped/stored and not streamed?
It definitely shows album art used as ‘internal player’ and as Roon endpoint.

Thanks, and yes, to your question. local files on my internal network i have ripped/stored on a nas/das.

Sigberg “Sarannas’ are back, driven directly (AES) by the T8,

I haven’t heard this sound better.

Second presentation without books ... I miss them, as they transmit some human touch (optically) ;)

Just the powder coated steel top plate of the stand.
It’s a nicely proportioned unit imho.
Ideal with active speakers I wouldn’t mind an optical input for the TV though.

How better?
Not the digital side but the Saranna speakers they are very dynamic with real slam and punch.

Be interesting if Keith you could do a blind listening test dig vs ana input on the Sarannas (Hypex). I expect no audible difference, but nonetheless be an interesting experiment.

I have compared two pairs of 8Cs, one analogue input the other digital input, using RME ADI ‘pro’ ( when we were allowed to sell RME) and I couldn’t hear a difference.
