Eversolo T8 Digital Transport!

Well I guess you guys don't buy into different digital cables making a difference, let alone different digital delivery methods, including wifi vs ethernet etc.

There is another thread on the T8 where dozens of people hear differences (and have preferences) between the different outputs from the T8.

I have both a WIIM and a T8. The difference, at least with my DAC, is not subtle.

I am a big fan of T8, but for different reasons, functionality.
Streamer transport is not really an audio device it is a networking device.
It is impossible to claim that a network digital signal is in any way influenced by a network device that functions properly.
It's like saying your Excel spreadsheet from SharePoint is better or worse based on your router, kind of a thing.
Streamer is a very simple device and has no impact on your audio reproduction.
This is true whether you use Wiim Mini, Wiim Ultra, or T8.
The beauty and appeal of T8 for me is its functionality.

Anecdotes are not even wrong, they are not information in situations like this .

I got T8, 60% for the functionality 40% for the audio quality.
The distributor for Wiim and Eversolo is the same company in my city. i did A/B listening test on the same system before payment.
And now i have both Wiim Pro and Eversolo T8 at home. Both passthrough with no EQ to my MiniDSP SHD. Whether you call the difference subtle or drastic or insist they sound the same, it is entirely up to you. If you heard Wiim vs T8 A/B in the same system, please report back. If you dont' have them, you can also search youtube for Eversolo vs Wiim or DCS, listen on headphone and ask yourself.
I have no interest debating this topic further, i enjoy music/concerts much more than audiophile debate.

I have a PhD in digital audio signal processing, and have been in the trade for a long time. That actually made me quite aware a lot things in our life not well explained by science. That's also why there are so many audio brands. If audio could be 100% scientifically quantified by numbers, there would only be a handsful of brands, like CPU market today, Intel, AMD, Apple, MTK, etc.

Don't get me wrong, i support ASR and is a donor. What ASR has done is amazing, i have bought a few items based on the review/discussion here. But it doesn't mean the ASR review/measurements can 100% reflect audio/sound quality yet. Don't ask me why, it is still up to many scientists today and tomorrow to find out.

You must be able to explain - in deep technical detail - specifically how the differences you describe can arise. You must also be able to show it in measurements. If your PHD is from any reputable institution, then I'm certain you were not instructed that "somewhere the magic happens and you can only tell by listening"

You should also have a full understanding of the need for well controlled blind testing when comparing audio systems.

I had an A++ GPA PhD in the field of Science Knowing, and if there's one thing I learned at Science Pro University, it's that magic is real and Harry Potter is also real and would have asked me to the prom last year if Voldemort hadn't interfered.

Personally I would have preferred Emily Watson, I have a Wiim Pro Plus several actually which I compared to various other ‘streamers’ if you can stand the excitement I wrote about the comparisons in my ‘Blog’.
The T8 is a smart box, and with contemporary active speakers outputting a digital signal and attenuating it almost justifiable, and it has cool optical!

I can hear a difference with Roon -> T8 to the Topping D900 and Topping D90 III discrete DACs.
For this experiment, I had to switch the T8 inputs and the DAC which takes about 5 seconds to get Roon to regain control.

I can also setup a test with two T8s and different inputs with the D900 and instantaneous switching when I have time.
In any event, this is really an observation of these DACs inputs not the transport.

To be fair, digital doesn't always stay quite the same digital with a WiiM in the less common instance where one owns PCM material higher than 192KHz sample rate (DXD for example) or 1-bit material (DSD) since WiiM streams downsample/convert anything that isn't PCM to PCM as well as any PCM above 192KHz down to 192KHz, whereas Eversolo streamers won't do that.

I am not saying that the difference is going to be audible per se, I'm just pointing out this technical difference being that it does exist.

I have not directly compared the D90 III and D900.
I decided on the D900 because it has MUCH better menu system and is overall a nicer unit.

With each of these DACs the USB, AES, and I2S inputs sound very different.
