Eversolo T8 Digital Transport!

You can say it but it wouldn’t be true.
Keith

That "truth" may be boring and it doesn't make people buy expensive audio gear like this T8, so I wouldn't recommend it! Headless panther on the way... :)

It is a smart looking box and it does work well with the various active loudspeakers here.
Just heard that the DAC-Z10 is on its way.
Keith

Meaning those active speakers have digital inputs (DAC inside) and for volume you rely on T8's digital attenuation?

Yes that’s correct, there were never many components that could output a digital signal and attenuate it, we used to recommend the RME ‘Pro’ but as the T8 is also a streamer, its useful.
Keith

Wiim and Node also but I wouldn't rely on that if you need to attenuate 20 or 30db...

It's hard for me to imagine a T8 customer, paying this kind of cash for a "pure" standalone digital transport of this "pedigree" level and use it's digital attenuation! :)

Because it would be completely transparent?
The T8 remember only has digital output.
The new DAC-Z10 which arrives today has analogue output.

Some people don't trust digital volume attenuation to not affect sound quality.
Some people believe that a box of cat litter connected to their system improves sound quality.

Wow! That monstrous TV with DAC has analog outputs? Why should we pay 2k euros or something for that way over engineered box when the market offers a lot of perfect measuring transparent DACs for a lot less? Oh, it also has an analog preamp? What for as long you can attenuate the signal digitally? :)

I don't think ASR members are the primary target audience for this product. Same to be said for T8.

DAC does stand for Digital to Analogue Converter.
The analogue preamp on the A8 is analogue end to end, ie it only works with an analogue input, I will check exactly what the Z10 does.

The analog preamp on A8 works on everything that goes out analog, not the analog inputs only, but the DAC-ed signals as well! That over engineered feature is a big part of the marketing info as it doesn't do the "bad and ugly" digital attenuation in favour of relay stepped attenuation. Z10 does basically the same...

No the analogue pre-amp, ie the +10dB of gain only applies to its analogue inputs.
