Eversolo EM-01 measurement microphone, any experience?

I've finally decided to attempt to go into EQ'ing after having bought a RME-ADI2 DAC. I ordered a UMIK-1 microphone some weeks ago, but unfortunately the cheap stores are all sold out and several of the more expensive as well. Going back into research mode instead of just waiting, I found that Eversolo recently began selling their own measurement microphone, the EM01, which retails for half the price here. Unfortunately there is very little information on it, seeing as it's quite new on the market, except people that are happy with it and a single person who has a calibration file that started at 64hz.

Are there any people here who have gathered any experience with it, especially in regards to being a rival to the UMIK-1?

I would also be greatly interested in the microphone especially the comparison to the Umiks.
There is one store close by where I live. I might pay them a visit and see what they know and if they have experience with it and maybe know more about the calibration.
As it seems the streamers from eversolo can load .txt‘s for room calibration. So one can also use umiks but is it the other way around also as simple to load the txt cal file into REW and simple setup with Dirac avrs etc.

Just looking at it, this likely uses a similar or the same internal microphone. It comes with a calibration file. So I wouldn't be afraid to use it. It has an ADC since it is USB-C rather than an analog output. I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't use a more recent ADC chip that is slightly better than the one in the Umik. Any good responding electret microphone in that size with a cal file will work for purposes of doing basic measurements with REW.

That’s true with the newer chips. Haven’t thought about it.
I’m actually drawn between the eversolo and the umik-2 which has the benifit of using better capsules with it. I might be able to get a b&k prepolarized capsule from work which is slightly out of spec. Maybe worth compared to the unbuild capsules

Hi,
I have never owned a usb mic, so I bought an eversolo EM01. It might come in handy when I started to use REW. I have mainly used ARTA for many years. It was not automatically recognized in REW, but I guess it will be in the future. It was easy to add it in the soundcard tab and the cal file was recognized. I have made a lot of diy microphones through the years, so I wanted to check the calibration against my Earthworks M30. It is flat to about 35kHz. I use a "Arta mirco calibration chamber" for the low freq and a seas metal tweeter above 1kHz. I then exchange the mic's in the same spot. See my result below:

The green is the eversolo cal file from 64Hz- 20kHz. The brown is the difference between the M30 and EM01. In my opinion my mic is within +-1dB 22Hz- 20KHz without a cal file. I will use my own cal file in the future.

Did anyone have any luck with setting this mic up with rew? I've just bought it but struggling with the setup. I'm new to all this stuff you see.

Hi, plug the mic into an USB port and go to the input tab in REW and pick EM01 as input and you should be done...

Hello!
I've managed to do that but I'm unsure if the calibration file works like the umik1 does. I don't know if it has the sensitivity parameters the rew talks about. REW is one complex piece of software. Spent all Sunday playing with it and still non the wiser. I have a garage gym with a boomy room mode that is driving me insane. Are there any experts in the UK who can help with room acoustics?

If all you want to do is tame some boom, i don’t think you need to worry about a calibration file or sensitivity at all. Seeing what frequencies are causing the booming is more important than knowing what the absolute level is, so as long as REW can get signal from the mic, you’re fine.

There is no sensitivity information in the cal file. Eversolo says -13± 2.0 dBFS. To get a ballpark sensitivity you can edit your cal file in notepad and add a sensitivity line. See picture below:

Hi paalj, do you recomend the eversolo or it is better to go for the umik-1? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I have never tested a umic-1 so it's hard to say. The umik is well proven with lots of reviews, but my eversolo is very linear. It do not need a cal file in my opinion. The umik includes a cal file with sensitivity if you need it. In most cases an usb souncard with a mic input is the best in my opinion.

I’m trying to get an EM01 mic to work on REW but the input signal strength seems to weak and there’s no way to change this in REW or on Mac OS. Anybody else run into this issue or how to fix? I also note the calibration file for this mic only goes down to 64hz…does this mean that any subsequent readings between 20-64hz will be erroneous? TIA :-)

I am not familiar with rew on a mac, but I guess the mic can be adjusted in your mac OS mixer?
Regarding your cal file from 20-64Hz.... You will get the readings down to 20Hz, but without any correction. Most measurement mics are flat in this area anyway so it should not matter much.

Now I am on my macbook pro. The mic did not work on the usbC to usbC cable, but works fine with usbC to usb2 cable. I had to use a hub in between. My mac had only usbC inputs. Good luck!
Here is a measurement of my mac speakers ;-)
