Have any of you tried listening to a DSD file? I am new to streaming. I’ve had my A6 for a few months now and am curious to see if I can hear a difference with a DSD file (from an SACD) vs streaming a 24/192kHz from Qobuz.
I have like 80GB of old music on an External drive - but nothing is over 16/44 as it was straight ripped CD’d from 10+ years ago.
I have just tested a 2-channel DSD 256 on DMP, I buy this level of quality because you have a significant difference with a 24/192 type Qobuz, the DSD 64, it is said that it is still close to certain recordings in 24 /192, depends on who is listening. From a DSD 128 resolution, the difference is more obvious. I find the DSD 256 an interesting format, above there is the 512, longer download and large file size (I've never listened). In general, the DSD brings more fluidity in listening, very small details become perceptible, it is especially in the extension of the treble that we reach peaks without harshness, the bass is well defined, it is less obvious than for the treble. Little difference on the width and depth of the soundstage. The contours of the instruments better defined. I haven't tested the DSD 64 in 5.1 via HDMI, I'm thinking of buying one to see. In any case, in DSD, I found the DMP very transparent and of great musicality, excellent for the price of this player.

It works without Roon, this time from the EverSolo directly, I can't listen with the DAC of the EverSolo not having a USB connection for that....

I have been struggling to get the HT+Hi fi setup in a single room, due to the limitations of my House.
Some how i managed to settle the HT issue with marantz cinema 50, but for 2 channel music it is still not good.
So i tried some different setups , but ended up having different issues.
My setup is Marantz cinema 50 + NAD C298(Purifi amp) for front 2 channels.
I'm trying to use the Nad C298 XLR input option for purifi amp to get an independent 2 channel Hi fi system, using a Topping D90 and a Raspberry pi volumio(only playing local files). It works and very good, but couple of times my Kef LS50 encountered the full Volume and almost got some impact . I'm using fixed volume in NAD C298,and Toppping D90 also fixed output, but controlling the Volume in Volumio App. The issue of full volume comes during switching ON the systems.
I could use the Topping pre amp mode, but the quality is not good (May be passive volume?)
Due to very close of loosing my Kef L50, I'm planning sell Topping D90.

Now i'm looking in to Eversolo DMP A6 , would that solve my isssue here?
My main concern is , how good is the eversolo A6 preamp? I heard some youtube review and it says it's pre amp is same as topping Pre90? can some have any experience on this? This will solve my problem .
Other option I'm thinking is Topping D90+Topping pre.
I'm in the edge of ordering the Eversolo DMP A6 , but want to hear some advises/opinion here.

After a few attempts of purchasing this item and finding it out of stock, I sat down and really thought to myself, do I need this device If I use Roon and my TV, speakers, Chromecast and DAP are already Roon compatible and that I use my phone or iPad to control my Roon software? The only real benefit for me would be the DAC (If I use the analog outputs of the Eversolo) and the really cool VU meters that in all honesty gave me some serious gear lust.

@jiji - The Eversolo has a menu item (picture on Page 18 of the manual) for Boot Volume under System Settings > XLR/RCA Output.

The choices are default, and -5 to -30 dB in 5 dB increments. You could set the boot volume for -30 dB if you wanted to protect your speakers from full-on volume at startup.

I was not aware that the A6 could play higher than a DSD64. I would like to try as high as it goes for some critical listening. My system is pretty high end and I am hoping to hear better staging - and the small details you spoke of.

I have my Eversolo DMP A6 connected with good RCA’s using the Analog out. Do I understand correctly that to listen to DSD 256 (or any rate) has to be done with Digital HDMI output? The reason I ask is I am planning to buy a Tube Pre Amp (with HT bypass) and would use the XLR output - which might not work for DSD files…

@Gary4321: The HDMI output supports DSD, but isn't exclusively limited to it. Right now, I'm listening to a DSD64 file via the RCA analog outs.

In USB, on an amplifier equipped with this type of socket, you can listen to DSD higher than 64, but in two-channel, in HDMI, on an HC amp, multichannel, it is limited to DSD 64, I have just tested on my Denon 8500 amplifier on my Home Cinema installation.

I had never listened to DSD in multi-channel it's very spatial, interesting as a sound experience, I find the restitution soft and enveloping, it was worth a try...

I'm a newbie... What are you thinking for punishment?
Jail time or a good ol hanging ?

It's veterans like you who make me wish I could delete every post I've written and go into read only mode... The fact that you're too scared to call out a specific "newbie" and just despise us as a group speaks volumes...Tough guy...

I should have known... Hive mentality groups where you have to tow the party line or, you know...
I am a relative newbie also. Amirm posted awhile about how to treat newbies. It was a call to be nicer as I read it. Some may have not seen it. But it pretty clear, just subjective comments will have to be backed by some proof- typically a double blind test. And the expection is after a few weeks you will get a feel for the feel of the site.

There are plenty of forums/reviw sites for the subjective comments and are appreciated but not here. Frankly I am here because I get no value from these subjective reviews or. forum comments. And one reason I am donated early. And I agree I don't want the site to become just subjective comments either, but with some grace to educate. The equipment reviews are great. Forums in general are always mixed with a lot of low SNR to misuse a technical term. LOL This site in general has a higher, but not prefect.

Hang in here and the ignore function is your friend. And I am sure, if my comments, being still a relative newbie are not correct, someone will let me know quickly hopefully with a high SNR.

I deleted my reply to the Tough Guy...
Please do the same and this distasteful conversation will disappear....
I''m switching to read only mode I don't have the patience for this BS.
Thanks, and take care....

Hi, I have a question about the type of filter (FIR) you use in analog (RCA or XLR), I hesitate between Fast Roll off (minimum) or Slow roll off (minimum). The Fast seems to me more suited to the sound characteristics of the DMP, this filter seems more analytical straighter (this may be accentuated by my RCA cables which are straight and also detailed from the Audioquest). So far, with the Rose, I was on the Slow which is often set by default on DACs or streamers with a warm type.

@Werther44210: Have you taken a look at the chart on p. 19 of the manual regarding Filter Characteristics?

If you only wanted a warm sound, Eversolo suggests slow roll off, minimum phase.

DACs or streamers with a warm type - not sure what you're referring to. I don't ascribe any "sound" to the Eversolo outside varying the DAC filter for impulse response. Am I missing something here?

I thought I had seen this information, I did not remember where, actually on the manual, I will opt for the fast filter which I like, the slow one actually gives a softer sound. Thank you for the answer.

Do we know if this is something that can be or possibly have been fixed in a firmware update? And @amirm do you think it's likely that these spikes can create problems for subsequent electronics down the audio chain? Say hitting an ADC in an active speaker or similar down the line?

Hi,
I answer on the second part of your remarks, in general, the USB cable, is generally more effective, its interest is to be able to transport rates higher than 192 Khz and the DSD. Some people like coaxial because it has a fuller rendering with a more limited bass, USB is more dynamic with more precision, the less natural the USB feels, be careful, we are really on the tastes and colors of some and others. In digital, I use USB and Coaxial, depending on what I have available in terms of connection.
Thanks Werther. Great information. Yes kind of reflects what I hear. The coax sometimes sounds right to me. Listening again yesterday, the USB does sound a bit more clearly defined overall, but that can sound a bit hard over extended listening.

I would compare unsighted, it is extremely unlikely there is any difference whatsoever.
Keith
