You can use one (ore even more) of Your fingers no matter which; it's at Your choice ;)
I think you cannot wake it up with the app (as we said, it's off, and so is the wifi/lan) but with the IR remote you can.

Yes, I know this.
But why should I need to wake it up/turn it on when I sit 1 m beside it to listen to music?
Or even had to make some steps to it?
Makes no sense to me, to be able to turn it on from the sleeping room so that the music is playing when I enter the listening room.
Maybe to simple thinking, but I'm old (fashionend), grew up with knobs for on/off on TV and audio, without remote, smartphone etc. and still alive; don't now myself how this could happen.

Yes, agree. As if you want to listen to some music, and it is soooo hard to FIRST turn it on, and THEN sit on the 10-feet-away sofa... the jelly-legged-generation...

Generalizations are never good. I have always worked physically demanding jobs and exercise a lot. Expecting quality of life features does not equate to being lazy.

I can't turn on the A6 using the app on my phone and tablet because the device is not discoverable when powered down. Is that supposed to be the case? If so, not having a simple standby is a major flaw for such a modern streamer.
Have you try to connect via lan cable instead of Wifi and use static IP instead of dynamic?

Remote not featured on their site & Amir only mentions the remotes absence.
Think I'll get one now ☺

And till yesterday we played CDs and vinyl... no apps, or even remotes, to load the media, uh? Yet was part of the ritual.
Nah, I don't drink it... bringing in "quality of life" when it comes to press a button before sitting is, IMO, a bit exaggerated; I still call it being lazy.

That's fine, but this streamer does practically everything else other than this simple feature that the Shield and many other streaming devices allow. With a prevailing mindset of how acceptable everything was in the past, it is a miracle that we have gotten this far.

When I was child, there were lots of friends who didn't have TV at all at home and nobody has remote controller even if they have TV. I would not think serious.
For me turning on by hand is not difficult at all, but very nice to have remote controller to turn off when I'm tooooo sleepy. And.....in that sense, I love my Boxem Amp!

I know all about that having lived through it, but that was the past. Out with the old, in with the new. I will say that I am impressed by some of the things the A6 can actually do.

So, aside from the silly "remote" issues (I bought one for $12 but don't use it), I wanted to say something really positive about the ol' A6 - if you were waiting on downloading and installing the "beta" F/W, quit waiting and install it! :)

I put it in on Sunday and have been enjoying it ever since... aside from the possibly cool EQ feature (which I don't think I actually need), to me the SQ is substantially improved!

The sort-of "objective" thing I can say is that the playback of .dsf files over the coax out is much better - whereas it was (again, to me) unlistenable, now it sounds more or less like any other CD-quality source. With my not-really-missed Yamaha, which did understand these files directly, I felt I was getting something better with the .dsf playback... if I try hooking up the HDMI output, maybe these .dsf files will once again sound even better without the "DoP" processing and limitations(?).

Perhaps @mirror88 - who actually is in a position to know what changed between these F/W versions - can find this perceived difference in .dsf processing humorous (or not).

While I am still waiting for my friend to visit so we can do a real "blind" / "unsighted" comparison with my WiiM Pro, I can say now that I expect it to be difficult to tell them apart - with the last "release" F/W version, I at least believed I could tell them apart - and with a result not always in the A6's favor.

Hello, @mirror88 . Tell me what lines 1 and 2 mean, is this the input and output stream, and which one is which?
View attachment 342346

The first line is what the streaming service is reporting. The second line is what the DAC in the A6 is actually seeing and processing. Usually the same. Before I canceled Tidal because of their MQA crap, a lot of songs would show the MQA icon on the second line.

The remote turns it on or off. If you are using the app, the power "button" is on the top right. It has the following options:

Power off
Reboot
Screen off
Timed shutdown

If you use Screen off, you can select Screen on with the app. If you use Power off, you have to either press the volume knob on the unit or use the remote control. I have the remote so I always use that.

On the remote issue: The DMP A-6 can be controlled with a Harmony Hub for power on and off and a few other things that I haven't looked into yet. The Hub turns on the streamer, my AVR, which also triggers my separate amp, and starts playing whatever was last played, with one button. Makes me a jelly legs I guess. :D

I hung out with a blonde last night I tried the remote to turn her on but I ended up doing it ALL manually
C`est la vie
