Good morning.

I'm following this thread but I have to admit I haven't read all 144 pages.

I ask you for advice since many people have this Eversolo streamer.

I also have to buy a streamer and I'm undecided between this DMP-A6 or Cambridge CXM-V2 or Cocktail Audio N25.

The latter two have the advantage of remote control (Eversolo is optional but practically useless).

What I ask you is the sound performance, I read the reviews that define this DMP-A6 as too bright in the medium-high range and recommend pairing it with warm-sounding speakers otherwise it sounds tired.....this gives me some doubts.

Can you confirm it for me?

The others (Cambridge and Cocktail always have top reviews).

I don't have big expectations, use is with free Internet radio and a subscription with Tidal.

Reag Elicit MK5 amplifier and Kef R3 speakers.
Thanks in advance for your help.
I would describe it as neutral. My speakers are on the bright side of neutral (Focal) and the result is very good. Sometimes it sounds more relaxing and sometimes more vivid, but that is my mood, and also the temperature of my power amp

I do not have the remote controller but I have a Logitech harmony where I have added the A6 from the data base and I use it extensively, for changing volume, skipping song, put the VUmeters and turning it on/off!!! (you cannot turn it in from the app). No need to buy the remote controller at all

@mirror88 : New DLNA bug to report. Gapless works great, thanks for that! But once it gets to the final song on an album, it goes on repeat instead of stopping or going on to the next album in the queue. It runs all night if I forget to stop it. Still using Bubble UPnP to stream via DLNA to the eversolo using Tidal and Quoboz as sources. Just wanted to put it on your radar screen. Thanks!
Thanks, will check it.

@mirror88 Hello, you can implement in the new firmware sorting by albums in the “genres” tab, as is done in the “artists” tab

Thank you all so much for the advice and explanations.

I probably found the DMP-A6 for 750 euros, I'm waiting for confirmation (The cocktail costs 1100) if they confirm the price it's a valid option.

Yesterday I listened to the "Master" series at my friend's house (also with Focal and Rotel amplifier) it has a nice sound, sometimes a little too forward on the mids but it also depends a lot on the songs...

I found managing the application on a smartphone too complicated, there are a thousand options and filters to select (using it by default is probably the best thing) for everything else, it has fabulous graphics.

I can't say the difference in acoustic performance between Master and Non Master, I imagine that the "classic" model is quite similar.

Cambridge CXN-V2 I read that the V3 will be released soon so it is not a sensible purchase considering that it also costs 1000 euros.
Thanks again.

@Dekkard71, I agree with you, I have Focal, with a rather neutral Hi-Fi amp, a Denon, the DMP A6 can be described as neutral, the treble is not brilliant, there are a few bouts of nervousness (it depends on the track listened to), because the Eversolo has quite a lot of dynamics, this is felt in the low frequencies and high frequencies. As it's a linear sound, you don't get the impression that any particular register is highlighted. Experience on a DMP A6 not Master Edition.

Without wishing to bang on the FR of the Eversolo ( and every other competent dac) is ruler flat so any ‘not brilliant’ treble is down to your speakers .

I don't want to go off topic but the prices of these streamers as you have already said are a bit high...

I got the Wiim Pro Plus for 190 euros, it's fabulous, a very well made software and the audio performance is also good... plus the remote control with 4 pre-selected channels so you don't have to be totally restricted by your smartphone (which I can't stand! ).

Needing a display for greater practicality, I was evaluating these 3 devices, but their costs were insanely higher and incomprehensible.

It seems that in December the CXN-V2 goes on promotion for around 600 euros (in Italy) if it's true it might make sense.
See you soon.

I had the Wiim Pro Plus too. In addition to your comments, it has also EQ (GEQ and PEQ), which the Eversolo lacks. I was about to keep it, but I wanted to try the Eversolo.

The DAC was indistinguishable from the one in my AVR (AKM also) so I returned it. What I did not try was its preamp section, but I guess is not superior to Eversolo preamp

Thanks for the reply.

So the Wiim Pro Plus DAC isn't that good?

I have no experience, I imagined it was good enough (I use it with RCA output) but I will have to change it for other reasons too.

I ask you, do you think the Master series is worth the higher cost of 450 Euros?

The DAC is the same but the power circuit changes.

Can you tell me if free internet radios (I also listen to those in addition to Tidal) are present in the native application or only transmitted from smartphones and Bluetooth?

A thousand thanks

So as I mentioned earlier I was playing around with several high end streamers and found their software all… underwhelming, with Aurender being best, and very very expensive.

My Eversolo arrives yesterday and I do not yet have much listening on it, but the software and interface is really good. When it arrived, I updated the firmware to latest, dropped a 2TB ssd in it, broke out my dusty Unix shell command skills to do a rsync to move 30,000 lossless files from my Mac SSD to the internal SSD, and installed the Apple Music and a few other streaming apps. I’m using an iPad and iPhone to manage it. So far the firmware seems quite stable.

There are a couple of UI/experience quirks but compared to what i saw trying to use a couple other units, they are minor.

First impressions are really good. Super easy, and fast to find music. Easy to select source/destination. Interface is very snappy and easy to use. iPad makes music management easy even with 30k songs. The experience to use Apple Music has some limitations due to the fact it must use the native app, but, i get lossless and i get to not have to subscribe to another service, and it works even if its not quite as slick as the other native interfaces.

For my use, which will be as a single source for my office system feeding an integrated amp over balanced outs, this is quite good and i can’t see spending the cash on a high end unit.

Initial sound quality is good and sounds the same to my ears as my Benchmark DAC3 and Topping E50.

My requirements were:
screen on device
local device storage
balanced outputs
good software interface
apple Music high resolution
airplay

Once i have a little time with it I’m going to haul it over to my local hifi shop (where i have a good relationship) and a/b this thing on one of their high end systems with an Aurender. :)

The native app includes free/streaming radio. You can also side-load an app such As “tune in” or “i heart” to get local streaming access on the device. Think of side-loading as a non-native app but the app is running on the device like a smart phone.

The pro plus dac is transparent so as good as anything see @VintageFlanker measurements.
The ‘Master’ didn’t sound any different to the standard, when I compared them.

What format is the music in? When it scans it comes up with 0 files? File is shared via file system share in Windows or Mac? Permissions are correct?

I assume this is what you did: on the a6 go to files, then SMB or NFS share, add the share, you can scan or add this manually. Choose the root folder 1 level above your music folders. This step only creates the share.

Once you do that, you go to music, library, then add that share to the library. You can then scan that library.

So 2 step process. They should then appear in the Music section. I tried this last night and it worked with SMB on a mac source, i just prefer to have the music local on the device.
