EVERSOLO DMP-A6 GEN 2 or EVERSOLO DMP-A6 MASTER EDITION GEN 1?

The Gen 2 units have linear power, ARC, 12v trigger and Wake-on-LAN. The Gen 1 ME has better clocking and is AUD100 more expensive, so comparable. I won't be connecting a TV. My amp is a Rotel A14 Mk II with phono to a Rega Planar 3 using KEF R3 speakers and a SVS 3000 Micro woofer. What's going to sound better?

The Eversolo use a modified Android OS which has the nice feature of an Apple Music, but I would wait until you see the review of the Node Icon.

The German magazine Stereo.de had the Node Icon beating the Eversolo DMP-A10 for measurements.

It has nothing to do with the DAC chips. They were both engineered well enough that any differences are far beyond what a person can discern by listening

Is this because they use the same DAC chips? Should I save AUD500 over the Master Edition and get a first gen DMP-A6 then, or am I missing something?
The Eversolo A-6 and A-8 ( Amir has measured both here) are both audibly transparent, you can’t get ‘better’ than that, I would base my purchasing dec on features, aesthetics and price.

I see you have been a member since 2022 but you obviously don't use this site much as you would know better then to ever ask this question here.

Hence replies you get which tell you nothing.

About all I can suggest is there are a number of Facebook groups for Eversolo products or go to a dealer and compare yourself. Obviously take these groups with a grain of salt but there is useful stuff amongst it all.

I have not compared anything so bought the A8 on specs and features to suit me. Personally its been an excellent choice and an audible upgrade from my Oppo 205 (7 years old).

I checked this out and could find no reference to the A10 only the Cambridge CXN100. The measurements in this article relate to their new inhouse digital filters "Qrono d2a".

In a direct comparison, a Cambridge CXN100 stereo.de

Interesting I was in the market for the Icon but its delay in getting to the market I bought the A8. I suspect Eversolo gained many sales from this situation.

It’s in the print or PDF copy of Stereo.de from March. They only publish distortion and SNR, and the distortion is at 400 Hz at -9 dBFS.

We briefly discussed it here:
https://audiosciencereview.com/foru...eleases-2024-icon-streamer.58100/post-2225147

Node Icon 113 dB
Wiim Ultra 107 dB
Eversolo DMP-A10 112dB
Node N132 84dB
Eversolo DMP-A8 82dB
Auralic Vega S1 99dB
Cambridge CXN 100 100dB

Node Icon 0.001%
WiiM Ultra 0.001%
Eversolo DMP-A10 0.0052%
Node N132 0.007%
Eversolo DMP-A8 0.0089%
Auralic Vega S1 0.0012%
Cambridge CXN 100 0.0011%

In terms of the limits of Stereo.de’s testing equipment they did get the Gustard X26 down to 0.0005 and a Nagra DAC to 116 dB, so the Node Icon is NOT the best thing they have ever measured — just the best streamer they have measured.

It’s also interesting to see how poorly the N132 did at Stereo.de for SNR compared to what was tested by @Rja4000

Yes, this is why I'm looking at the Eversolos. The A8 is probably out of my price range unfortunately or the decision would be easy. I'm trying to determine which Eversolo A6 to audition against the new Bluesound Node Icon. It is a 4 hour return journey to audition in store. Hopefully Amir's Node Icon review isn't too far away.

Unless the Bluesound is poorly engineered ( introducing audible distortion) there will be no audible difference between the two, the inexpensive Wiim range are also audibly transparent decide upon features/aesthetics and budget.

As long as you compare the two devices sighted and not precisely level matched, you will almost certainly hear differences caused by your unavoidable subjective bias. But the differences disappear in a proper conducted blind test because there are none between objectively transparent devices. This is something you should have discovered being a member for years now. Try a proper blind test ( there are tutorials on ASR) only once: very revealing it is.... ;)

I agree that a proper blind test is essential. If they both audition transparently then connectivity, aesthetics and cost will be the determinants. The lack of a volume knob on the Node Icon would be new to me but not a deal breaker. What are peoples' thoughts on the linear power supply on the Gen 2 A6s?

The linear power supply is just a sop for ‘audiophiles’ a term I increasingly associate with the technically ill informed and thus gullible.
Ever so slightly diminishes Eversolo in my opinion.

Also counter build quality perceived or real , look and feel is important for an object residing in the home . Also consider who your buying from ,service and warranty handling is a important ! can you get competent help if needed .

If possible buy from a dealer , so you can slam it into their desk if needed :)

Re perceived build quality . I had Meridian electronics for some years , looked like a million $ costed an arm and a leg and broke all the time :)
vs some innocuous plasticky 100$ sony blueray that keeps on going seemingly forever or my squeezebox Touch that seems to last forever .

So research all circumstantial aspects of your purchase has Eversolo a good reputation ?

And of course functions features and look and feel , you must enjoy your audio product.

Both identical.

Not quite. Since this is a streamer, I would advocate for the latest version, that possibly would get longer software support overtime...

Well the question to which you ripped the answer out of context was
What's going to sound better?

I believe both versions use the same software version.

With the Eversolo you can input the PEQ filters manually which would matter to me as I could use REW and not be stuck with Dirac which has limited ability for adjustment, might not make any difference to you. I'd get the Basic A6 if it has the features important to you.

Edit: Dirac is in reference to getting the Node Icon.
