Dear ASR members,
Although not new, stereo sound reproduction with crosstalk-cancellation (XTC) is more widely discussed and used only in recent years. XTC means that your left ear only hears the left speaker and your right ear only the right one. Normally, both ears hear both speakers.
In general, the quality of XTC depends not only on the DSP tool used, but also on the listening angle, the directivity of the speakers and the amount of reflections. Hence, for most of us it is not easy to experience high-quality XTC. For those who always wanted to try high-quality XTC there is great news:
On our webpage you can try XTC with simulated flawless speakers and perfect room acoustics by means of headphones, free of charge. You just need a pair of headphones that are supported and go through the personalization. There are nine different pieces of music for demo that allow instantaneous switching between standard sound reproduction and XTC. You can even use your own music for testing (without the instantaneous switching feature though).
Why headphones?
Headphones provide XTC by nature and without any drawbacks. With our headphone personalization method the vast majority of users experience a soundstage in front that is indistinguishable from real speakers and hence allows for such a comparison using headphones.
You may try it out here, you only need headphones and a ruler or set square.
Just curious: which songs do you like better with XTC and which you prefer without?
Happy listening,
Philipp
