Eurovision 2026 – Guilty pleasure or genuinely interesting live audio production?

Year after year the same misunderstanding.
It is NOT the European Song Contest, it is the Eurovision Song Contest (Eurovision is a broadcaster, the EBU -- European Broadcasting Union). In theory any country can apply and many non-european countries do.

Even nominally good bands that participate do it with their possibly worst song ever , like ABBA did :) quality was downhill from there in the show .

It was historically a fun concept that captured many Europeans , and spawned cooperation among all the public service broadcasters around Europe in a time when this was needed. But it survived too long and is just irrelevant now, I thought it was time to end it in the early 80's .
But it is the OG music talent competition show who every other show is modeled after like idol et all .

So i would not linger too much on how horrible and tasteless it is now , but what it once was . they should ended it decades ago ! now its like the last seasons of TV show that dragged on for too long .

Had a girlfriend who loved it, whilst I was always a hater myself. She convinced me to get really drunk and place bets on it at the bookies. Suddenly it became fun. Briefly.
The end.
We've all been there, even the nerds and the spend-a-holics, hopefully! Wink.

The music became over time not tasteful for me. Very few songs which I at least find good. But for me it is waste of time and I do not watch it anymore.
In the end, I really cannot get on with regurgitative, generic pop.
Plus, I'm a grinch because of this.
It all went wrong after Mary Hopkin.
Those were the days, eh?
And Clodagh Rodgers, or was it Lenin? [age dependent humour - Excusez-moi Madame Clodagh. Ecrivez-vous votre nom dans mon livre des hommes célèbrites, s'il vous plait. Là, au-dessous de Denis Compton]

Indeed. Have to say that I think that at this point in my life, a heady conbination of gambling, alcohol and/or drugs, are most definitely required in order for me to engage with Eurovision in any capacity whatsoever. Life is definitely far too short.

Crack pipe is in the post.

I'm changing my handle of "Redacted" to "Tone Lowerer" in order to respect the po-faced people. :)

Can't help with that. But I've been there plenty. :)
One glass of wine and I fall asleep these days....

This is the extent of my knowledge of Eurovision:

It was several years after this film's release that I found out it's a real contest. Likely many Americans still know nothing about the real contest.

From what I understand, the rules don't allow live music at all. Instruments on stage are permitted, but only for pretending and can't be plugged in.

So that leaves vocals as the only permitted live performance.

Which will be weird for this year's UK contestant Look Mum No Computer, whose strength is live improvisation. Lol. I guess Sam will figure out something crazy for the live show instead.

The entry from Tierra Del Fuego is a bit far-out.

It would seem Sam is quite busy:

Oh yeah. Dis gon b gud

@Ropeburn has 100's of these hiding in his dusty "cable patch" - or am i confusing toys?

His have gone feral.
He hasn't posted for a few minutes - have they eaten him do you think?

I thought he might be at work, but he's an old git like me, and in the UK work is designed to inflict maximum misery on anyone attempting it, so he'd not risk going - most companies are run by feral furbies

Hey now, a man's gotta eat.

You're not wrong. Sorting is a nightmare

Something tells me Sam would find it harmless.

Btw there's a Wersimatic CX1 hiding in the box under all those cables :D

I've just been made to overflow the (hitherto) waterproof gusset on my old "dad jeans" by that pic (stretch Amazon Basics, £17 at the time, and proper ASR value)...
