So my uncle has a hearing problem, unfortunately.
Fortunately, though, he's not missing frequencies - he can hear over 14kHz in both ears, it's just the amplitude at higher frequencies are attenuated, quite severely at the very top. I'm no a expert, but I think this means the nerves and inner ear are fine, and it's most likely a physical resistance to vibrations somewhere before causing this problem, so boosting shouldn't do anything but fix things!

After doing some tests using tones (to make the diminished right ear sound even with the left), this is about what I'd need to apply to fix things.

I just can't find where to change these two shelves to only apply to the right channel!
(I plan to use the preamp to cut everything down by ~15dB to prevent clipping/compression that would result with louder high frequency sounds)

He likes music a lot, was into hifi in the 70s-90s, made speakers and had this receiver:

Right now he has a digital hearing aid for his right ear - because it's digital, there's a delay compared to the left ear which causes phase issues. Without going into too much detail, this problem results in further attenuation of, especially, higher frequencies, and almost completely kills any stereo image. Phase effects (from synths, for example) just don't come through.

I'd like to help him be able to enjoy music again like he did until ~15 years ago when this suddenly became a problem for him. He's not my dad, but I think that'd be a pretty good father's day present :)

I don't know how to do it directly in EQ APO, but it's fairly straightforward to EQ left and right channels individually with PEACE GUI for EQ APO:

Code:
# make right channel louder
Channel: L
Preamp: -0.8 dB

Just do this.

Anything you write after Channel: will only apply to this channel.

without any config editing you can also just add channel control by hitting the green plus, selecting control and then channel.

You can also set a delay on the right channel to match his hearing aid's delay, using the channel selection control @Ktacos mentioned.

The thing that maybe needs to be mentioned here - none of this will work well or at all using speakers, but it's worth trying with headphones. The reason being, obviously, that sound from the left speaker reaches the right ear and vice versa.

Ugh, I thought I included it was for IEMs (I always write too much first, then trim too much before posting lol).

The EQ they've done at the hearing place isn't especially good for music and the thing's got [permanent] noise cancellation built in and other junk, so that's probably not going to work. We'll probably mess around with delay though, see how it works

So simple, and so perfect. I've been in that menu before - "Channel" just didn't register, I guess! lol
Thank you
