Update on my own post:
Switched to Neutron Player on iPhone - well worth the price, especially since the Github AutoEQ settings for headphones are all in there already
On my MacBook I am now using AU Lab without Hosting AU
So are you using Neutron with your onboard Apple Music library - I thought it only worked in that mode? Congrats on understanding Neutron - I found the user interface fairly daunting. David

Yes, I have to copy music via iTunes to the Music library of the iPhone and Neutron will access it. However, as long as I am at home, I have access to my full library on Plex via the Network Stream option.
Neutron is indeed daunting, but the AutoEQ alone is worth it for me. Even the EarPods sound so much better with it. I also own the QKZ VK4, AKG K450 and Hifiman HE4XX and they all benefit from the EQ settings available. I have to learn a lot more to EQ myself efficiently.

I went the Qudelix route for eq, which indeed makes a big difference on old HE-400i, The app is as easy to deal with as Neutron is (or appears to me) difficult. I like exploring options so may go back to Neutron but my primary listening source is Qobuz so Neutron won’t work there. It would be good not to have to type in the eq settings though.

What really did for me with Neutron was the lack of any manual.

Next thing I plan to explore is to jailbreak my old 5s and put eqe.fm on it... systemwide eq sounds promising. As always, it’s a journey

Currently exploring what RePhase has to offer so I'm back to apo on PC and viper on android. At least the impulse file is the same. Equalizing the phase SEEMS to give me the experience I'm used to with IEMs but if it's placebo I'll probably return to using PEQ in my Qudelix.

Just curious, any worth to use any additional EQ to the standard one provided by Android? I know, it is 5-10 bands in dependency on Android flavor, but even 5 bands works well for most listening needs.

What you usually want is to fix the resonances, not to do complete transformations of the sound, and GEQ is very poor for that, and if the FR is really screwed you'd want both. Smooth but completely wrong FR is not something you see every day.

i tried SoundID by Sonarworks and i don't like it compared to using AutoEq / AutoEq oratory1990 target. The tests it does for tuning the EQ for personal preference is a good idea though.

compared using airpods pro

I even don't know much about this software you are taking about. I generally use Windows Media Player and VLC Player for listening songs.

So for the MAC there is Masterclass by Daniel hertz Systems, This company is run by M Levinson. The product is basically the Cello Audio Pallete realized as a software product. It also includes a circuit that provides some high freq distortion/noise to deal with some distortions Burwen found in digital recordings. Given Burwen's rigorous engineering orientation likely not just high end audio nonsense .

https://www.danielhertz.com/daniel-hertz-products/daniel-hertz-products-master-class-software

At the bottom of the page there are some recordings that you cam sample with the eq switched in or out, it seems to be quite effective as a music eq.

Wavelet for Android has the potential to be so much more than what it appears to be at first sight. Yes, it offers the whole AutoEQ database of settings. But with a little bit of work you can use whatever curve you want. I have used it to EQ my smartphone when connected to my car stereo too.

With a mix of the instructions from here: https://medium.com/@jaakkopasanen/make-your-headphones-sound-supreme-1cbd567832a9 and REW use... you can end up with AutoEQ commandline like this:

python autoeq.py --input_dir="MyData" --output_dir="MyResults" --compensation="compensation/Harman_Target.csv" --equalize --parametric_eq --max_filters=20 --fixed_band_eq --fc 20,21,22,23,24,26,27,29,30,32,34,36,38,40,43,45,48,50,53,56,59,63,66,70,74,78,83,87,92,97,103,109,115,121,128,136,143,151,160,169,178,188,199,210,222,235,248,262,277,292,309,326,345,364,385,406,429,453,479,506,534,565,596,630,665,703,743,784,829,875,924,977,1032,1090,1151,1216,1284,1357,1433,1514,1599,1689,1784,1885,1991,2103,2221,2347,2479,2618,2766,2921,3086,3260,3443,3637,3842,4058,4287,4528,4783,5052,5337,5637,5955,6290,6644,7018,7414,7831,8272,8738,9230,9749,10298,10878,11490,12137,12821,13543,14305,15110,15961,16860,17809,18812,19871 --q 1.41

That gives you a custom profile to import in Wavelet. You can import as many as you want. You name the txt file as you want the profile to be called. You import in Wavelet and you can then search for it in the database and apply it at will.
It's not parametric, but with 127 bands (43 from 20Hz to 200Hz) you certainly don't lack the resolution to fix things correctly.

Another example of what it allows: I use custom IEMs. Their FR has been measured and AutoEQ provides Harman target values. But I prefer Oratory1990 curve for IEMs. With a bit of work it was possible to use that and import it in Wavelet.

how did you convert the harman iem target value to oratory1990 curve with 127 band?

The .csv compensation values for O1990 USound curve is provided by AutoEQ installation (cfr. https://github.com/jaakkopasanen/AutoEq/tree/master/compensation).

So in the above command line instruction (the python one) you have the FR data of your IEMs in MyData directory, you put oratory1990.csv as compensation and then AutoEQ spits out the correct values to be inputted in Wavelet under the MyResults directory (the GraphicEQ.txt file).

The hard part is getting the FR data in a processable format, if it's not among the measured models you can find in AutoEQ. But the medium.com link has instructions that allow to gather data from graphs.

Edit: what i wrote was more about pointing out what's possible. If you can't "find your way" by my suggestions, please let me know the specific scenario you have and I will try to do a more clear step by step for you.

Right, so this is me being stoopid.

I've downloaded Equalizer APO.

I've followed the instructions in the other master thread of Amir's recommended EQ.

But playing back music, either with Amazon HD (exclusive mode both On and Off), Windows Media Player, or Groove, I'm getting zero difference to the sound, turning things on and off.

I think I need to turn something on, or apply something, or...I don't know.

HELP! (thanks)

From what you write, the first thing I would check is if you installed Equalizer APO for the specific sound device you use on your desktop PC. You need to use the Configurator.exe file in the installation directory (of which a shortcut should be in your Start Menu under Equalizer APO).

I also recommend installing the Peace GUI for Equalizer APO, but that's not mandatory at all.

Thanks. Nothing, unfortunately. My offboard DAC (FiiO E10) was already enabled.

Have you tried installing (through the Configurator) with troubleshooting options / Install as SFX/EFX?
