Black soot is pollution, CO2 is plant food and not pollution. Historically on the Earth CO2 levels have been greater than 1,000ppm currently tha planet needs more atmospheric CO2 not less. Plant growth is optimum at Co2 levels of ~1,000pm.

Plants are the basis of life on this planet. In terms of Geologic History the CO2 levels have decreased from >2,000ppm
~145M years ago to (IIRC) 220ppm during the last ice age. Most CO2 has been converted to Calcium Carbonate by mol;l;usk, ie clams. Plant begin dying at 180ppm, Photosynthesis stops at 150PPM CO2.

Most people don't consider planned obsolescence as part of the manufacturing process. Plastic bottles, bags, and a host of throw away parts that are non-rebuildable. All part of the "let em buy another when it breaks/wears out". The old cars had a oil filled air filter that worked very well. Fuel filter was a stainless steel mesh and a gravity bowl. Many claim "well I use paper when I can! How about the manufacturer comes back with the 5 cent returnable bottle, paper wrapping, and a host of other items as a first step with the biggest impact on the environment.

That is called "life-cycle analysis" - people can get graduate degrees in it now. You trace down all the raw materials used, costs of transport, and costs of recycling or re-use/disposal. IIRC, there are books describing it (not textbooks on doing it, tho they have those too).

A simple read is to the website for Patagonia clothing and look at what they do.

I think the analytical correct side is massive waste of light and heat/cooling. Next is consumption, not which type you consume. But is a whole population problem both from waste and poor sources. These were the oil bath filters of long ago. The air flow made a 180 degree turn and passed over the oil which trapped the dirt particles. Filter media was usually a wire mesh. Washable and put it back together.

Greta Thunberg is making good use of her time and energies. Perhaps follow her lead and not harp on audio hobbies. We are not the biggest problem.

Negative criticism is constantly flung around in these 'movements' when these events occur. I see enough of it from newreaders and politicians.

Personally I'm sympathetic towards those who think protests or speeches in front of important people don't do anything, even if they seem to be willfully ignorant

All this climate change/carbon talk really has very little to do with audio. By the way, China's belt and road investment program is building coal fired power plants faster than the US and EU can decarbonize. It's really a losing battle and we need a different approach. By the way, CO2 is plant food. We should be planting more trees.
