Energy costs for your area?

Enjoy it now. It is banned in many parts of California on most days. New construction and remodels do not permit fireplaces.
to tell the truth here too. In municipalities with over 30,000 inhabitants it is prohibited, unless the fireplace is of a higher category which means having a closed-chamber fireplace. But I am in the countryside... even though my municipality has 90,000 inhabitants...

I have a 5000 sq ft house and am all electric in Omaha, NE. I pay about $130-$150 per month with a rate of $0.1038 per kWh. The coldest month, February, is usually around $200.

Edit: Google just built a $750 million data center about 7 miles from my house.

$250 is good price for hardwood in SF bay area.
I always make the same mistake though: if I bought it in May, I would pay around 150 Euros. Obviously in the winter months the price goes up…

anyway I see that in Europe, northern countries aside, energy is quite expensive everywhere. I thought that Italy was among the most expensive, since we don't have nuclear power, instead I would say that it settles in the average. Of course then you look at the USA.... out of curiosity in the USA how much is the cost of energy alone and how much is the markup of the company and taxes?

My brother manages a golf course and I get free wood so I never look at prices until today based on your post. We always think EU prices are higher. Surprised for Beach wood.

In the Netherlands, for gasoline, it’s 63.7% taxes. For gas and electricity it’s around 60% taxes.
Yes but your social services are better and well coordinated. We have a lot of poor and immigrants that fly under the radar and our businesses are required to pay for healthcare a huge competitive disadvantage as it is expensive. But it leads to lower cost goods overall. Pick your poison as they say.

here in Italy 1.06 euros per litre of taxes, between VAT and excise duties...for a total cost of 1.80 euros per litre!

Since my wife pays the bills I had no idea how much we pay or if it’s high comparably. I’m in a city in Massachusetts of about 50k with municipal electricity which is generally less expensive than our neighbors. Our monthly bill over the summer is $350-$425/mo, but that’s with 2 AC compressors running along with an in-ground pool pump.

Since my bill (for 09/01-10/01 just arrived....using Lane Electric (a coop fwiw) my basic charge is USD 41.00, usage charge was 893 kWh @ .0895 for 79.92, plus a city franchise charge of 2.42.

Hard to not allow forest fires. I live in a forest. We have fires around us all too often (even now).
For sure. We had forest fires smolder all through the 2024 winter and then when good weather retuned they went back to burning above ground. It's a major issue. Lots of combustibles out there...

So far most of ours do go out in winter or at least in one nice rainfall this time of year....we got a teaser last night/today but nothing too significant here so far. Keeps the smoke down at least.
