FA503This sounds incredible! Which Hypex amp(s) are you using?
What a beast!FA503
It should sufficeWhat a beast!
And how have you come to that conclusion? Note I will in fact also have subs. Why not make smaller speakers and use subs?
With these giant towers you still have to deal with nasty room modes.
Then why such a large cabinet? And how have you come to that conclusion? Note I will in fact also have subs.
What do you mean? I don't know why you would need subs with something that full range. Then why such a large cabinet?
Sorry, not sure I am following. These are full range mains with cardioid down to 40Hz which will resolve much of the typical LF interaction issues. But I will also have subs for that last bit of LF extension, but NOT because they are needed to correct any LF room issues, they are not. And note I am generally not a fan of small speakers and a big believer in full range mains if the room can accommodate. Then why such a large cabinet?
I have no experience with cardioid bass, but assume you are correct in your choice to tame room modes. And again, what is your reasoning to support your conclusion that there will be "nasty room nodes" with this particular system?

Geithain does cardioid down to 35. Those ggntkt look so good. This is the only example I know of that’s been done.

Correct … will cross around 40-50 … exact point pending measurements/analysis of actual room responseWould you cross to subs around that 40Hz mark? I wonder if crossing higher would negatively affect the cardioid feature's positive effects.
Not sure what is wrong with the looks, form follows function. And note I prioritize performance over looks. But looks are not fully irrelevant of course. Ultimately these will look very nice in their final form. I guess you are wanting to see a giant horn? Maybe a Meyer Bluehorn? Talk about WAF issuesI have no experience with cardioid bass, but assume you are correct in your choice to tame room modes.
That said, looking at the rendering and drawing above, I am less confident that you won't experience some "nasty visual room interaction." AKA a negative WAF.
Understood on the WAF, and I must say it is great to have an understanding partner in these matters. I have mostly been blessed in a similar manner by "she who must be obeyed", but for some folks staring at a pair of almost 6' tall speakers can be an aesthetic challenge regardless of fit and finish or the design... then again others like the statement. Not sure what is wrong with the looks, form follows function. But in the end, doesn’t matter, as this is MY dedicated listening room, can have whatever I want. The wife could care less (she gets the rest of the house )

Funny you mention Bluehorns. I have given them serious consideration. I decided there was no way to decorate them with paint or veneer and make them visually acceptable in a residential environment. As with your current project, the only way I would find either solution visually acceptable would be in a dedicated room with an acoustically transparent fabric wall. In cases like these, I think no visible speaker would be my choice.
I have been living with large horn speakers that sound fantastic, but I am kind of over looking at the hardware and would love to eliminate the elephants in the room.

I wish I could claim it, but I borrowed it from Mr. Rumpole.“She who must be obeyed” LOL, love that
The 15" woofer is a JBL that was developed for the original Revel Ultima Sub, the other drivers and the horn are from TAD.Which horns are those? JBLs I assume? Nice looking speakers!
So basically a DIY speaker? Active or passive?Th
