Emotiva XMC-2 Review (AV Processor)

I was not the original purchaser the original owner had passed away despite the fact that the device failed immediately out of the box.
The unit was new but the original owner was dead? That's unfortunate.

Yes, I purchased it from the family of the original owner, who unfortunately had passed away before using the device. The unit was effectively unused and failed immediately upon first power-up. My concern is not so much about warranty transfer in general... it’s about the device being defective out of the box and the manufacturer not standing behind a product that failed on first use, regardless of ownership.
I am simply trying to get the device back into working condition by replacing the failed ECC board. This is about restoring a product that never functioned, not about seeking coverage for a used device under normal circumstances.

No matter how you look at it - you bought a used product with no warranty. You’re the only party in the wrong here.

While the device changed hands, it was never used. I personally opened the box and powered it on for the first time, and it failed immediately. This is about a product that was defective out of the box, not normal wear on a used item.

Are you able to have someone from the estate send Emotiva an email to transfer the warranty?

It really doesn’t matter if it was unopened, it’s still a used product. But it doesn’t really matter what you, me or anyone else on this forum thinks. Let’s just say I agree with you 100%…what changes?

Nope. The product is second hand but not used.
Ok. It’s a different meaning to me. Once you buy something from the retailer, I consider it used but English is not my first language. Either way, how we define it makes no difference as it doesn’t move the needle. It’s just idle gossip.

I regret purchasing this unit. I am still dealing with persistent processor issues. My setup includes a Valerion VisionMaster Max projector, Marantz AMP 10, Apple TV 4K, and an XMC-2.

After the unit was returned from service, it worked for a few days with only the LCR speakers connected, using the projector via ARC as the source. When I added the surround speakers, the left surround produced no sound. After adjusting some settings to troubleshoot, the processor stopped outputting audio entirely. there is now no sound from any speaker.Troubleshooting steps I have already tried:
  1. Restarts and Factory reset
  2. Attempted to play built-in test tones (no sound)
  3. Switched inputs from ARC (projector) to Apple TV
Has anyone seen this behavior before or have suggestions on what to check next?

I’m hoping to get some advice from the community regarding a warranty situation with my XMC-2.

When the unit first failed I had to send it to Emotiva for repair, but at the time I had not yet completed the ownership transfer from the original owner so the repair was processed as a paid Non-Warranty Service. Emotiva was not clear about how to get the warranty transferred given the original buyer passed away.

Later, when the unit failed again (right after their 1st service), I was able to contact the spouse of the original owner and complete the warranty transfer. Emotiva acknowledged the warranty and covered the second repair.

Since the unit was actually still within the warranty period all along, I requested that the first repair charge be reconsidered, but that request was denied with a an excuse that it has been too long since the 1st repair service was done (less than 2 months) and in a subsequent response, they are saying that the device was not under warranty at the time of the first service time. :)

I’m curious if anyone here has dealt with a similar situation or has suggestions on how best to approach it.

Unless you want to take them to court or at least threaten legal action, I’m not sure what else you can do since you already discussed this with them.

Seems like you both may have a case. Emotiva has a case because you didn’t officially transfer the warranty until after the first repair which means the unit was not under warranty when you did the first repair. If the original owner would have done the repair then it would have been under warranty.

Also, unfortunately Emotiva’s reputation can’t be tarnished anymore than it already is so having a potential smear campaign may be of no use.
