Emotiva RMC-1 AV Processor Review

Have a look at this post:

Thanks, I was never gunna find that.

In this case, Amir did include an edit warning, with a link to the re-test so one just have to read the whole post in the first test, though the chart could still confuse someone as there is/are still one or more error(s), or just misleading/inconsistency type in it that Amir for some reason has not cleaned up (AV7705) yet. He measured numerous devices so I guess this sort of things bound to happen, no big deal regardless.

It looks to me like, bottom line, Emotiva processors suck. Their amplifiers are pretty darn good especially at the price point. I like their DAC PT1 and PA1, which I have both. They seem to do what they are supposed to and do it well. But as far as home theater, who actually makes a decent good performing processor with very few negatives? I would be tempted to go for the marantz a10 but the price is a bit offputting for just a processor. Still if it actually lives up to the hype and marketing BS I would be willing to accept the 7K entry fee for good solid function and sonic excellence. But if it doesn't live up to ALL the marketing crap count me out...I will go back to stereo only at least in that vein I can get solid performance without a lot of problem. Anyone with me on this?

I dont know if this belongs here or not but since the topic is Emo processors and specifically the RMC1 and 1L I have some doubts if this belongs here in the way most folks think about it. But I have an MR1L from Emo that is sonically wonderful but it has issues. Comparing it to what I have read here about the Rmc1 and its lesser brother, it seems all too similar though with different problems. I have owned the Mr1L for something like 5 months now and while in many ways it is good, it leaves a lot to be desired in some ways too. Sound quality is quite good. S/N ratio and SINAD I have no clue how my unit measures...the bottom line is that noise is non existent from a users standpoint at the listening position. When using this as intended I can hear no noise from the speakers...nothing...its as black a background as you could ask for. But there are issues...when switching sources or choosing a particular video to watch in youtube for example, sometimes I get horrendous pops in the speakers as the new selected source comes online. This bothers me greatly and enough so that I refuse to connect very high quality speakers to the unit because I never know when this will occur and how loud those pops will be. This makes the switching source so suspect that I will never get the sonic quality I bought this piece to get. Im pretty aggravated about it, and Emo is not going to honor their warranty for this problem. Further, I have found that sometimes I can turn on the TV and processor and there is no sound at all...this makes no sense at all because the connections are new cables and properly connected but sometimes there is NO SOUND...and that is unacceptable in a product that costs 1600 bucks in round numbers. That said, I initially saw the MR1 and its siblings as a more up to date solution compared to the previous generation processors/receivers from Emo and something I would feel good living with, sadly I am disappointed by this piece. Im not selling it due to its audio quality but it will not meet the standard for a premium system in my home...its relegated to 2nd or 3rd place or possibly worse. I find it hard to step up to the AV10 but that seems to be the ONLY sub 10k processor that will do the job and live up to the hype spread by the marketing department. My question to you guys...have I mis-stepped here? Am I on point and is my assessment accurate? Please, if there are other processors that do their job without glaring issues as I have presented here, then please let me know. I hate throwing money at a problem when the money is wasted. Give me a reasonable solution to a decent processor that does not have the glaring issues or other glaring issues exhibited by the MR1L. I need something that works without aggravating me with eccentricities. Sorry for the long rant but this is important, at least to me. I am sure there are others who can contribute to this discussion in a positive and helpful way. Please speak up

I have the XMC2 and while not perfect it’s been trouble free for the last 6 years. With the gen4 processors on the horizon you can pickup and XMC2 or rmc1 for a bargain basement price. If it has eARC then you really don’t even need to upgrade for a while. I have eARC on my XMC2 so I don’t plan on upgrading for a while.

Your assessment on your processor is spot on. I considered it briefly when it first came out but I figured it being an OEM that Emotiva just relabeled that Emotiva would have no control over its firmware and things would not get fixed. Considering Emotiva had problems with firmware on processors they developed… yes Emotiva is not the most reliable but I guess I’m lucky.

As far as I was able to determine from the mass of various posts on their forums it was a problem of the Dolby processing occurring even when it wasn't supposed to be present (like in the reference or direct mode) which was increasing noise. It wasn't all that clearly stated or maybe my brain had already gone soft from the previous 20 or so pages of posts I read, but that's what it seemed Lonnie (I think) was saying they'd found.

On a lighter note... your post made me think of this advertisement for some reason:

I haven't laughed as hard as this made me laugh in a while...very funny...I was drinking a cup of coffee at the time I saw this and had a mouthful, very nearly spewed it across the room and very shortly after that nearly choked to death laughing...I love this forum.
