emotional female vocals

As a Dane my first thought was Annisette. Front woman of Savage Rose. Her vocals can shake mountains.
Here’s one from the band’s American stint

And here is one in Danish that most football fans will remember. Never fails to give me goosebumps

Big Maybelle. This is kind of a novelty song but it's a great early soul gospel vocal.

Molly O'Day, country gospel number. She retired from performing due to personal problems but could have been as big as Kitty Wells.

Lotte Lenya. She was in the original cast of the Three Penny Opera in Weimar Germany. This recording is from the late '50s or early '60s. The key is a bit lower than the original and the vocal is more nuanced.

Oh Lord nobody mentioned Mahalia Jackson yet (but somehow Dua Lipa got in!) I'm not a religious man but you don't have to be to know that MJ believes absolutely in everything she is singing - is that the definition of emotion?

Bessie Smith. It's hard to pick just one. I love this one for the vocal and the great trumpet part by her favorite, Joe Smith. (no relation)

An Emotion yes, but not what you think. Get ready to smile

what are the most emotional female vocals and why?

This one comes to mind.

She became Stanley Kubrick's wife, so I suppose he was touched by it too...

A great movie, too, if you haven't seen it.

It even stars Timothy Carey!
