Do you listen with or without toe-in?

@renaudrenaud listens at very loud levels and has ears that can spot distortion quicker than me. If you have a real problem, it must be that the tweeter grill is not placed well.

Yes, was not happy with the first pair until I discovered the tweeter grid was not perfectly aligned. I fixed the problem and then it was ok. I sold the pair to a friend because I wanted a white pair. Not found any difference at all with the second pair (except the color).

Hey everyone got bored over the weekend and decided to take apart my elac dbr62 figured this would be a good place to post pics, enjoy !

I’ve had these from November 2019 and
love them!

But was thinking of possibly upgrading some components in the crossover circuit, was thinking of starting with the 2.7μf 100v cap for the tweeter swapping it out for a Jantzen audio superior z cap of the same value and swapping out the resistors for Jantzen superes 10w, and upgrading all the internal wire and the binding posts.

Any feedback would be much appreciated!

Nice pictures but why do you think replacing crossover components has any benefits?

You may want to pay attention to these threads:

I am not decided on the issue because it is easy to say that something is missing from measurements. It would be the job to give actual proof. Theorize and invent a measure of that what is missing and giving evidence. But I leave this to well educated audio engineers. It seems though that objectivists are occupied with their project to defeat the subjectivist's review sphere with all their magicians, occult preferences and marketing imposters that this will only happen in another historical episode of audio. Anyway, I would not buy expansive caps like the one you mentioned. If you think you really have to do the 'upgrade' (is it?), only get basic MKPs. And maybe just leave it and enjoy listening to music instead of soldering. ;)

every manufacturer has a budget so components are budget oriented, there is a possibility to upgrade using better quality components. Not necessarily it would make a difference for the better but worth trying.

I think it would make the product last longer, not necessarily sounds any better. There are research in this forum that proved no change in sound quality and measurements after an expensive cap change

It is always about 'fit for purpose'. I see no plausible reason that a different capacitor of the same value will sound better. It may past longer, but a speaker is not a hot environment.

Thanks @Coke101. Is the tweeter sealed i.e. does it looks like it has it's own chamber?

Can anyone gauge from the pics if the crossovers are high order or not?

I currently have 2 pairs of dbr62, using 3 units for front LCR and using elac debut b6.2 for surround/rear speakers. Wondering if I should buy the debut reference center speaker and change out the surround/rears to my half used pair of dbr62. Any thoughts?

But was thinking of possibly upgrading some...

If you want to do anything to improve the speaker, then investigate putting some heavy damping material on inside of the rear panel to eliminate the back panel resonance that Amir measured. Any crossover alternations would have to be done knowing the specifications of the drivers, in order to possibly design a better crossover. Swapping existing components for gold-plated "audiophile" brands is unlikely to have audible benefits.

what exactly was wrong with the sound? The tweeter grilles on my speakers are aligned properly, no gaps, but are not super firm in the position, I can take them off very easily. I removed them, there were few moments I thought it sounded a bit cleaner, but need to give it more rounds to eliminate wishful hearing :) Either way no significant difference.

With the tweeter not exactly in place, the position of each instrument was not correct.

You should try measurement and equalization. One Umik-1 is around 100$ / 100€ and REW software is free.

UPDATE #4: surprise, surprise  That extra resolution was just an illusion. The speakers are brighter and possibly there is some distortion in upper midrange. At first I was impressed with crunchiness of the guitar riffs, and that was all what I was throwing at it first day or two. But when I tried other genres it became obvious it does not sound right. Vocals are thinner and always with echo, sharp sounds jump in front of the soundstage, there is texture to everything, nothing is smooth.

so again a question of sample variation, but in different regard. I would admit that it's just my brain, but I had the first pair for a month, I was well accustomed to the sound, and these sounded different from the first moment and never eased. After 6 days (up to 40 playing hours) I also consider them well broken in.

now I wish I never returned the first pair  trying to get them back

I measured the response to linear sweep (via phone, distance 1m, pointed at tweeter).
What do you think about the peaks around 2khz and 6khz?

So here is my take. I have gone through the following.
1. Revel m16
2. Wharfedale Evo 4.2
3. Elac dbr 62
4. Kef Meta
5. Kef Wireless 2
6. Kef lsx
And among all of them this is the best i have liked so far personally, this one is a real sleeper and hats off to @amirm for finding this!! No wonder it performs well on the technical numbers as well. The most neutral and well rounded, organic sounding i would say.
