I'll buy my first system in the near future and based on the reviews decided to go with these speakers. I'm having some doubts about wich amp to pair with them, but have been eyeing a yamaha S-301 for 200€ (I'm in europe). Would that be a good amp for these speakers? Or should I look somewhere else?

Yes, the Yamaha S-301 will work well with the ELAC DBR62 loudspeakers - assuming your listening space is not huge.

I don't have a turntable and I don't need sub so SMSL AL200 looks very interesting to me. I wish it had more digital inputs though..

By huge I mean a 'cathedral-sized' listening space. The combination of the Yamaha 301 and ELAC DBR62 will work in your space.

I run my DBR62 with a similar amp with similar wattage (Marantz PM7001) in a 25sqm/250sqft living room with a small open kitchen and with my extremely quiet 1V output DAC (Pro Ject USB Box S) I never move volume control beyond 11 o clock. With my more reasonable 2.3V Output CD player I've seldom moved volume control past 9 o clock.

I'm confident that the AS301 would not be a limiting factor in any form.

Speaking of an all black finish, has anyone ever compared this speaker (DBR62) to the original Elac Debut B6 that had the black finish as the only choice? If I remember correctly the Debut B6 measured well according to online reviews. IIRC the Debut B6 has a big cabinet and sounded quite nice but there were resonances in the cabinet and the speaker exhibited rolled off highs past 10kHz. Regardless I just remember enjoying the sound quite a bit and curious about the difference in sound signature between the original B6 and the DBR62.

This is a review and detailed measurements of the ELAC Debut 2.0 B6.2 bookshelf speaker. It was kindly purchased by a member new and sent to me for testing. It costs US $245 from Amazon including free shipping.

The Debut 2.0 has a decent look:

It comes with an external grill that I did not use. But I did leave the tweeter screen in place for testing. It is likely a nod to retailers putting these in showrooms trying to keep fingers away from the delicate tweeter.

The finish is fine except I saw a fine white line above the speaker:

Have you actually tried the B6 and DBR62? It would be interesting. I do like the b6.@!$ I am interested in trying the dbr62. The measurements on the B6 were decent IIRC but the highs appear to be more rolled off than the dbr62

No I didn't.
Take Stereophile measurements with grain of salt. So let's compare Elac SB41 instead taking it as smaller brother of B6 with same XO and tweeters.

Let's keep in mind cabinet resonance would be less pronounced with smaller woofer of BS41. The advantage of DBR62 is very sturdy cabinet and front port. So very little resonance from cabinet and easyer to place and it really shows in treble from 4.5 to 8 KHz where DBR62 does much better but it's not something which can't be corrected with wide PEQ. However 14 to 18 KHz deep can't but I don't see that as critical area. For more advice is go and listen to DBR62's when you get chance.
