Edifier R1280T Powered Speaker Review

I introduce to you!!! First (almost) wireless Edifier R1280T speakers!!!

With integrated Bluetooth,Airplay, audio over Wi-Fi for lossless music and active FIR crossover:

Neat project. Some things I noticed that could be filed under "fine tuning":

1. With your crossover being that steep and limited level handling in the woofer, odds are you'll be able to reduce the XO frequency. I'd try somehing around 2.5 kHz maybe.
2. You should be flattening out the driver responses in magnitude and phase throughout the crossover region and match up their time delays before applying the crossover proper.
3. The low end seemed a bit thin to me in the video and may need some extra help (depending on how much battery life you are willing to sacrifice). You may need to read up on how to take either
a) nearfield measurements of woofer and port, plus compensation for baffle size (this article seems quite good)
or
b) groundplane measurements outdoors
which are about the only sensible way of getting accurate bass response measurements. I mean, you can try placing the speaker on a high ladder somewhere out in the open, but...

I own the edifier R1280 T...

It takes me a lot of work to set them right...

Then reading the raving review i deduced that most low cost or even costlier speakers must be horrible but people who dont know better buy them...For sure if we regard the price which i did before buying they are not a great risk...And like Amir i am surprized now but after optimization ...

Because there is no relation between the sound before optimization (mechanical, electrical and acoustical and after... No relation at all ...

Out of the box they were if not bad not very great...
After optimization they are good for the price...

i will upgrade toward the Edifier S1000KII
Or the the S2000 mkIII..

I conclude that measuring is well but learning optimization is better ...

This is an album of Bach keyboard works played on a mini-organ. Really challenging for speakers--huge range of tonality, from piercing flute-like trills to rumbly bass. I'm amazed at how well the Edifiers are handling it.

I cannot thank you enough for this Bach Klavier by small organ recommendation.
The edifier do well with it but for sure it will take a better speakers to render the bass and my edifier is optimized not just plug and play...
I had plenty Klavier interpretation on piano & harpsichord but the small organ give them a tremendous hypnotic power ...

:) Glad you liked it.

I just bought new R1280DBs for about US$75, the cheapest speakers I have ever bought in my life. I put them on my desk with stands and follow Maiky76's PEQ suggestion. My thanks to Maiky76. With PEQ and at modest volume the speakers sound good and enjoyable!

That the speakers come with a remote is super handy. I also use the optical input for connecting Belkin SoundFrom Connect for Apple Airplay.

The speakers are giving so much for so little money.

Six years ago I had the old version of R1280 (I remember its price was even a little higher than the current DBs version.) By then I knew nothing about EQ or PEQ. I sold the old R1280 after very brief usage. I now understand better what I should do in this hobby and how to save my money. :p
