Edifier MR5 Review

I wouldn't even know about noise without comment here, and I already marked this in my private notes (review) as no issue [✔️]. So now i've put my ear next to it out of curiosity and I can hear the buzz. It's inaudible from 50cm to me, and I see +0.1dB bump from 10cm, so i go closer, it's +1.2dB @1cm. So let's recap noise @0cm then:
volumebuzz (dB)
30+2.5
25+1.2
20+0.5
15+0.1
100
50
00
off0
No problem to me. It's got the lowest and least annoying noise from my speakers, so it's good for desk use in a bedroom or living room.

Thanks for taking a look at that in detail, and the other ideas as to how to reach optimal sound level and quality - I can drive the MR5 at volume level "20" on the built in amps, with no hearable noise, and reach a good listening level, loud enough for me solo at my work / listening position, with the iD14. I might faff about with some ferrite rings on the mains cable, but not much else I can do, but enjoy the sound as such.

The comparison to the Hypex monoblocks is not fair, true. And no, they don't have a volume knob. =)

b) Ground loop... OK since it's connected via balanced TRS it shouldn't be the Audient/Edifier connection. That leaves the mains connection, which is a two-wire un-grounded cable. I could reverse the plug, and also try a different power socket (230V). Thanks for the suggestion, I'll crawl under my desk and test some.
That presumes everyone has implemented the balanced connection correctly, which sadly still isn't the case despite there being a standard for everyone to follow (AES48) - devices with a 'Pin 1 Problem' still make it to production. Jensen Transformers' AN007 includes a step by step troubleshooting process for ground loop issues in both balanced and unbalanced systems.

So I bought MR5 instead of D3V which wasn't available in white color. I didn't wait once heard from ppl here, D3V not great for nearfield or low volume compared to others, had trouble with standby, muffled highs until latest firmware (where some ppl still not happy). I need something 50cm for me, for clear dialogs, and common PC work, to hear as good as on the headphones.
This set has no issues with the first and last firmware 1.0, app connects asap, standby doesn't annoy (it simply doesn't trigger during the working day unlike others) and can be turned off.
Looks very good visually. D3V looks like computer speakers, but it's also fine and they're smaller. Cardboard here vs D3V plastic.
Have to buy desk support, while D3V includes legs. Not important.
MR5 some buzz above volume 20, i can't hear it, but I can measure it. Irrelevant, many speakers buzz.
Clear dialogs on 1% volume -- accomplished.
Strong bass without subwoofer -- accompllished. Obviously no thunder in Dolby Audio videos, there's no subbass. If any small 2.0 set will go lower, I'll be interested in it.
Soft rampup when turning on or switching modes to protect agains deafening.
Digital: Bluetooth only vs USB-C only on D3V. Not perfect on both.
Bluetooth very recent here, with LDAC and higher bitrates, all welcome. Mixed inputs, e.g. PC and 2 mobiles work together. Interesting, perhaps welcome, or not. Not sure.
Overall great, hard to find faults.

Boxes are the same btw, it's just knobs adding to depth.

you dont have dv3 , and you compare ..

leg are important for ears and tweeter

Any suggestion about the eq?currently i just bring down 750hz peak for bout -2.5 db then apply -2db high shelf filter start from 4khz

i just bought these and i am impressed. They have 0 self noise, with only slight hint of colored noise when the volume is all the way up (you absolutely cannot hear this from 1m) much better than jbl lsr305 which hiss like crazy even at 0 volume. Volume pot is digital and stepped so i guess there wont be balance issues, and also jbl mk2 have annoying limiter that simply pops and mutes the sound for half a second. so the only competition to this speaker is really adam T5V but the woofer in this thing is quite different to 5inch speakers it doesnt color mids when you crank up the volume almost as if you had separate subwoofer in the room although it does not go as low as 8 inch woofer would. So it is somewhere between 2.0 5 inch speaker and 2.1 setup. but again for 200 Euro this is absolute value. For TV use i would still buy samsung soundbar though, you get way better volume and true 8 inch bass

This thing has a well controlled port, with low resonance. It beats out a lot of the competition and even some more expensive speakers, surprisingly.
