What's your playback chain? A lot of us Windows/PC folks are using Equalizer APO + PEACE (shared mode playback only).

Also, by any means read
Why "shared mode" playback only? THANKS!

@Radioheaded

Download and setup this: https://sourceforge.net/projects/equalizerapo/

Copy these inside a .txt file: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/pierreaubert/spinorama/develop/datas/eq/Edifier MR4/iir-autoeq.txt
Visit this page once a month, it is getting updated.

Now you can run the equalizer settings using Configurator Editor (can reach using Win + S). This is how it looks:

I don't think you need Peace etc.. All you need is a turn on and off button. When I am using my MR4 speakers, I turn the EQ on. When I need to switch to my headphones, I simply press Win + S, run Configurator Editor and press the button to turn the EQ off

. It is not necessary thouh, I just don't like to use an EQ made for my speakers when I am using my in-ear headphones.

(The things I said only applies if you don't care about details. If you want to get deeper, the things I mentioned might not the best thing for you.)

Hi,

Thank you so much for reply!
This is exactly the steps I needed.
I installed PEACE to check it out and I have Erin's settings loaded as below:

The problem is that this EQ is applied to everything but Foobar, which is my primary music player.

Currently, I have set Foobar output as "ASIO: UMC ASIO Driver":

If I change it to "Default: OUT 1-2 (2-BEHRINGER UMC 404HD 192k)", then the EQ APO works with Foobar.

But if I remember correctly, the best output setup for foobar is to use dedicated ASIO driver for DAC.
Am I losing anything from using the default driver to have the EQ APO applied vs keeping ASIO: UMC ASIO Driver and not using EQ APO?

I'm currently split between two options:

1. Use "Default: OUT 1-2 (2-BEHRINGER UMC 404HD 192k)" as output in foobar.

2. Keep "ASIO: UMC ASIO Driver" and add separate EQ in foobar.

Do you know which is technically superior or more optimal?

Hi,

Here is my take on the EQ.

The following EQs are “anechoic” EQs to get the speaker right before room integration. If you able to implement these EQs you must add EQ at LF for room integration, that is usually not optional… see hints there: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/...helf-speaker-review.11144/page-26#post-800725

The raw data with corrected ER and PIR:

Score no EQ: 3.7
With Sub: 6.4

Directivity:

Better stay at tweeter height

Horizontally, better toe-in the speakers by 10/20deg and have the axis crossing in front of the listening location, might help dosing the upper range.

EQ design:

I have generated two EQs. The APO config files are attached.
  • The first one, labelled, LW is targeted at making the LW flat
  • The second, labelled Score, starts with the first one and adds the score as an optimization variable.
  • The EQs are designed in the context of regular stereo use i.e. domestic environment, no warranty is provided for a near field use in a studio environment although the LW might be better suited for this purpose.
  • Beware of the LF boost, you've been warned

Score EQ LW: 5.0
with sub: 7.8

Score EQ Score: 5.4
with sub: 8.0

Code:
Edifier MR4 APO EQ LW 96000Hz

Edifier MR4 APO EQ Score 96000Hz
December162021-134901

Preamp: -3.5 dB

Filter 1: ON HPQ Fc 67.70, 0.00, 1.23
Filter 2: ON PK Fc 612.59, -3.35, 1.98
Filter 3: ON PK Fc 827.79, 1.95, 4.88
Filter 4: ON PK Fc 2955.45, 3.36, 3.15
Filter 5: ON PK Fc 6285.98, 2.27, 2.28
Filter 6: ON PK Fc 10478.50, 1.54, 4.99
Filter 7: ON PK Fc 13202.41, -2.87, 2.67

Great work with the EQs. I have to say that at this price point those speakers are great! You can't expect more for this money.

Have tests here been conducted with the MR4 connected in balanced mode? I have mine connected to the TRS ports of my SMSL DL200 and almost cannot believe what I am hearing.

According to Amir and the Scientific Audiophile, you should use music mode.

I put a mic at my listening position and ran REW, then adjusted. Because these are rear ported, distance from a wall are going to make a big difference, and since they're for desktop listening, the difference between a foot away from them or three feet can make quite a bit of difference.

Here's my before and after REW.
How far away from the wall did you seem to get the best result?

How can I use SPL Horizontal and SPL Vertical txt files together to make my own EQ? I am trying to import these datas to squig.link and autoeq.app but the websites do not accept the format or doesn't work properly.
