Hi All,

I’ve been following the site for a few years and have learnt a lot from the knowledgeable members. However, I had to become a member to ask a question after a recent discovery. I have one of those Power Stations that people use camping and in vans etc. It’s basically a giant lithium battery with a bunch of inputs. Anyway while I was sorting the van out last week I thought I’d just plug the DAC into it to see if it did anything. Well I was laughing my head off for about 10 minutes as the difference was ridiculous! All the Hi-Fi BS platitudes apply. Loads more detail, far easier to hear the difference between bass notes, and simply less mush and crap that isn’t the music (no idea what it is).

Anyway I obviously want to move the thing but we use it for various bits and bobs when camping and they’re not cheap so I don’t really want to buy another. My question is can you get something that will do something similar without the Bluetooth/App, processor, clever charging management etc? I have an active 2.1 speaker setup and I am intrigued to try it on those but I almost don’t want to try unless it would be permanent.

Thanks for any suggestions.

There's no logical reason for that...

Come back when you've done a Controlled Audio Blind Listening Test with statistically valid results. ;)

Also. Audiophoolery might help you better describe what you are hearing (or what you think you're hearing).

Yeah, unless your regular setup has some issue like a ground loop that's causing noise there's absolutely no mechanism by which using a battery (or actually the output of the inverter, presumably) could change anything.

Okay will do. Although my cat could probably hear the difference

I’m willing to accept that conditioners are BS but a battery power supply? Umm… That I could see doing something. Or maybe there is something off with my mains power.

I have an Ecoflow Delta Pro that I have used on occasion to run my audio rig when the utility is out. It sounds no better nor worse, nor should it.

Er, why? In either case it's the same thing: the difference is the AC power going into the device's power supply. And power conditioners do in fact make it cleaner. The problem is that we know from testing that it makes no difference to the final output.

The only way power supply could make an audible difference is if your mains power was faulty in a very serious way.
I'm eagerly awaiting your controlled blind listening test results!

they’re not cheap
They are
especially compared to products doing the same thing that are marketed at audiophiles.

I have a similar box from Bluetti. Not to say it’s special in any way, but the output from this thing is a remarkably clean sine wave with 600 W / 1200 W of power, and I paid around 200 € for it.

I use it at outdoor parties to power a DJ setup and active speakers. While setting up the DJ mixer, the DJ tapped the tip of the RCA connector, expecting to hear a hum or buzz to check the channel.

Nothing happened, and he complained to me, “I’m not getting a signal.”

I was like, “We’re in the middle of nowhere what kind of signal are you expecting? ”

But it was kind of eye-opening: when you’re on IT power and there’s no mains pollution around, all your hum problems are just gone.

How did you power your DAC (via AC or DC from the EcoFlow) and what other equipment did you use to listen to music?

If you think that these devices generate a “purer” sine wave than your grid, think again:

Conclusion at around 6:30.
