E30 not providing anything over .700V

I hope your DMM is capable to be accurate for VAC. I had to invest in an expensive DMM (where I'm from its not cheap) just to be able to measure the voltage. The E30 should be outputting 2.1V, HOWEVER.........

You must be able generate tones at 0dB. Then you can test from 20Hz to 20kHz. I used Foobar to do that at 16/44.1 and making it a bitperfect connection to the E30 to bypass all processing by the OS. Alas I am not familiar with any Apple product... but do you have a PC or laptop to try this out?

It is made by Fluke for Matco.. Yes, it is capable..

Also whats the point of all the detailed tones when I want to listen to music? Why can't it be measured with the source and content it will be used at? All the music tested never did I get over .7 Volts....

Music is never a good choice for testing this as its never going to give you 0dB (at least not a constant output) to get that 2.1VAC. You need to use tones @0dB.

Just to add... not all sources of music have the same replay gain... some are lower than others and vice versa.

I don't listen to tones... Do you? Just asking.... There was a 200hz tone used at one point....

I already explained why music is not used in this scenario. As for your 200Hz tone... was it at 0dB? What did you use to generate that tone? Was the connection bitperfect?

You can also adjust balance from the iphone 12 too.... Does the camera adapter have some type of DAC built into it?
It is an Apple lightning to USB first design Not the 3..
I don't think you ever confirmed if the iPhone volume was maxed for testing. And is volume levelling /normalisation turned off in tidal?

Double yes.... Normalization off on Device also, to which did make a difference. Not much but noticeable..

I don't listen to tones.. If I test 30 songs each of different nature and never get over .7 volts, then whats the point of a test tone? Just because music is variable doesnt mean the DAC should not provide what is required of it given test tone or music.. If a perfect situation tone was provided and id did in fact provide 2V, where do I go from there to get that from music. Funny, I bought everything to listen to music..

No we do not listen to tones... but you are having a need to confirm if your DAC outputs the full 2.1VAC. And as I have mentioned... I already explained why music is not used to do a test. People who has responded has also tried to explain this to you.

I confirmed, it does not provide 2V in real world situation... Albeit variable with dips and valley's it never reached above the .7

DMM's typically measure V-RMS, and they measure it slowly(averaged). RMS voltage is the amount of AC power required to produce the same thermal output as DC power at the peak voltage. So, what that means when looking at a DAC, music is rarely full output voltage. 0dB Test tones are absolutely necessary to see this RMS voltage. It's the only way to confirm the audio chain is properly outputting the proper voltage. (2.1Vrms?)
Try this, and max out the volume on your apple device and the website volume slider.

onlinetonegenerator . com
edit for future readers: don't use this site. It doesn't provide 0dB output even at full volume.

2V is the max it can provide. Music can have momentary peaks reaching that level but they are relatively rare. Plus your DMM is averaging so it will not register that 2V with music even if it could work on all audio frequencies. That is why you need to play a constant 0db signal so DMM averages to the actual constant voltage on the output. And again, unless you're using an app capable of bit perfect output to an external DAC assume your 0 and 1s were altered. This is not that big of an issue as you might think but it is what it is.

Can I post a link here to Facebook for video or youtube..

I'd do the full scale tone test and see if you can get near 2v first as others suggest.

But then yes, you can post a link to YouTube no problem

Tesla Hang Tough..
Signwave as instructed..

It is either source or the unit. Both of which need to be figured out why?

Is the iPad volume at max on the second video? Is the test being generated at 0db? It's hard to see.. Also lower the frequency to 200-300 Hz, your DMM is spec'd to 400 Hz.

Why are you using a multi-meter? You bought a DAC to listen to music, not look at numbers!
