Is it possible to buy the 9038D anywhere?
so far only used one but I just yesterday got the opamps I need for the new 9038D version aka D6000, and I'll offer that DAC ASAP.
The new gen of 9038D6K aka D6000(yes, the DAC contains 6000uF capacitance of the power filter!). AES17 DR and THD+N are a bit improved, if 9038D has average AES17 DR 125db(A) and THD+N -118-119db the new version has DR 126db(A) and THD+N -119-120db. This is not a golden sample, just the first one I assembled.

The unbalanced 9038D version seems to be sold out everywhere I looked, the balanced 9038S is widely avalaible. What would be the use case?

What's my use case? I have headphones with a standard 3.5mm stereo cable. I bring my Focusrite Clarett 2Pre everywhere primarily for headphones, and if I could replace that while on-the-go with a thumb drive sized DAC, that would be fantastic.

Well, with the E1DA 9039D currently unavailable, there are many other decent options like the Hisizs S9 Pro or the Fiio Ka3, both have 3.5mm and 2.5mm connections on the same time, which makes them very versatile. The Hisizs S9 Pro costs about $120 and the Fiio Ka3 about $80. Both are quite powerful, the Hisdizs measuring better, but the Ka3 having no audible noise or distortion.

Garrincha, oh my bad again, I was sure that no one else portable DAC measurement was better than -120db of THD+N ;)
Maybe I was not quite clear, I meant the S9 Plus measuring better than the KA3. The 9038D for sure is a great product, but if it is not available right now and someone needs a dongle, there are other options, just that. And, having both, 3.5mm and balanced (2.5mm or 4.4mm) in the same device is a nice feature, I think. And to a certain degree the SINAD race is also a bit futile, if there is no audible noise or distortion, it does not matter very much if it is -100dB or -150dB, other features and properties might be more important.

I appreciate it. Where are you seeing measurements for these? I could only find the S9 (not Pro) and K3 (not Ka3) here on ASR.

exactly, please note that was tested with E1DA Cosmos ADC, and APx555b will never show you such low noise floor FFT, so that's why I wrote "Jitter" test. I won't say if 9038D6K jitter outperforms all that Amir tested here ever, I only saying that APx555 is extremely overpriced junk ;)

Ivan, the new version will have more tolerance to housing ESD? I had issues with the 9038D in Europe, the humidity here is very low and when I touched the housing the device stopped working and needed replug. This is noticeable when using grounded devices aka PC. With mobile, the issue is not significant. In central Europe we have ESD almost everywhere.

Am I right that numbers on my unit
"TCC 2/-66" mean compensation without load? and with headphones I must use what I see in tweak app by default (2/-55)?

Thanks

Might be I am too naive, but I believe putting manual to box with screenshots from tweak9038 could help and slogan "buying the app you support us to calibrate every device as it really time consuming thing"

P.S. What value should I put as TCC to 0db volume point?
