I was wondering 2 things:

1. If you'd use a player that can uncompress the audio from a DVD-A (through HDMI) would it be equal to that of a Blu-Ray version of the same release? Like for instance Yes - Relayer

2. Are DVD-A's region encoded or region free?

Since they both support lossless audio they could be identical but we don't usually know if it's a different master or a different mix. If the Blu-Ray has Atmos mix. That came-along after DVD-Audio.

According to the book DVD Demystified, they are region free:
"Regions apply only to CSS-encrypted DVD-Video titles, not DVD-Audio, unencrypted DVD-Video titles, or DVD-ROM titles."

Thanks, that clears up a bit, as I said in the other post, the release of Yes Relayer for one, is a similtanous release so it would be fair to assume they are mixed from the same source/master. And just to be bit more clear, I mean uncompressed DVD-Audio vs the losseless soundtrack of an Audio Blu-Ray disc
