Dutch&Dutch add ‘uBacch’ to their 8C active loudspeaker

The review by Andrew Quint is going to be in issue 350.
As soon as I have a link I will add, it’s a piece about the 8C and the Bacch cross cancellation plug in.

What are your impressions of this new technology within the context of "it will always be on"? Many things sound great in a demo but then you end up turning it off once the novelty wears off (or for whatever reason). Is this something you envision always being enabled whenever available?
Who ends up turning it off? I have lived with it for two years. I only turn it off to demonstrate it’s profound impact and massive benefit

If Theoritica can do this without the Apple hardware platform for D & D, is there any reason they can't make UBacch available for Windows boxes?

It took a while, but I got it running right on my rig as well. It remains in the "on" position!!!!

I've been considering getting a pair of 8Cs, but I'm wondering if there will be a hardware update soon since it's been several years since their introduction. Any thoughts on this? Some 'easy' updates might not even be on the sound quality side with driver/amp/DSP changes but convenience like built-in WiFi connectivity. Either way, it's great that the company keeps adding features via firmware updates which gives me confidence about the speaker's longevity.

Regarding the Bacch plugin, if I'm not the only one listening in the MLP (say on a couch with 3 people seated next to each other), should this be turned off? I'd assume the cancellations wouldn't work properly if shifted left to right.

@Martijn Mensink is the man to ask I don’t foresee any hardware changes, the 8C arrived fully formed but as you say D&D have continued to add functionality .
You can trial the Bacch plug-in.

There’s no 8c Mk2 or similar update on the horizon. However, we are working on new products, with at least one set to be released this year. We will continue improving the software platform, which is shared across our products. That means the 8c will receive new streaming services and additional features this year.

As for BACCH, it’s designed for solo listening in the sweet spot. Listeners seated in front or behind you may still perceive some increased spaciousness, but those sitting beside you won’t experience the intended effect. Fortunately, BACCH doesn’t noticeably impact fidelity outside the sweet spot.
