Dutch&Dutch add ‘uBacch’ to their 8C active loudspeaker

Sorry about that,

Keith

Internal via firmware update or external box? if internal, free or paid?

Internal, the whys and where fires haven’t been sorted out just yet, soon I hope.
Keith

There will have to be a camera in order to keep track of head movements. It will be interesting to see how the camera is interfaced with the speakers.

BTW, The 8C sub outputs are to be upgraded with woofer crossovers and time delays.

Edit: I just noticed the title was uBACCH, not BACCH.

The ubacch version dispenses wit the head tracker I believe.
Good news about the sub output, the capability was always there to integrate external subs just needed the implementation.
Keith

I’ve heard BACCH with and without the tracker. I wouldn’t bother running it without. Of course with the head tracking it becomes a one person system.

Love the tautology .

Would you mind explaining?

The reason we're considering a subscription is that in its current implementation, we're dependent on other services to be able to provide the BACCH technology to users. In its current implementation, uBACCH works with the 8c's streaming inputs, Spotify Connect and Roon. What if at some point Spotify Connect and/or Roon will be no longer available? Also, we don't know what other cool features we'd like to develop in the future, and we can't know for sure if we'll be able to support uBACCH in combination with that future functionality.

No other software or hardware will be required. In the Room Matching menu in the 8c's native app (called Ascend) you can already provide all the information required to set up uBACCH for your system.
In the US uBACCH is $399. A subscription model would cost a lot more over the long run. I suggest you charge for major updates if they take a lot of effort but but not for minor changes. The user can choose to pay for an update, or not.

Your comment was a bit unclear. Will uBACCH work on the line input tooo, or only on streaming?

uBACCH is the intro version of BACCH4MAC. It is USD $980

Strange, I see 399 for the plug in.

Edit: Two different products, BACCH and uBACCH

Well I guess they have indeed made it available to users of something other than MACs and apparently at a reduced price as well. Bravo. Obviously a new offering not restricted, it would seem, to D&D 8Cs. For $400 might very well be worth a look see for me. Doesn't say if it works on Windows machines though. Also has a 20 percent discount which would knock the price down to $320.

Aah thanks for that! I wasn't aware of that option

Can't help but wonder if Bacch and D&D being neighbors at Axpona set the wheels in motion, or if this was already cooking. Very interesting implications of Bacch not being locked to Mac

That's right. uBACCH for the 8c's is basically a 3rd party plugin. The software is owned by BACCH Labs, implementation is the result of the joint efforts of developers from both companies. It's going to be an optional one-time purchase, or perhaps a subscription-based model. We're still discussing the details. In any case, what I'd really like is to make a trial version available to anyone who has a pair of 8c's.

Yes, it's a firmware upgrade just like any other. The uBACCH implementation itself now works, but there is some work left to be done with respect to embedding it in the user interface and being able to turn the availability on and off for individual users, or Dutch & Dutch products. We don't have an official release date yet, but I suspect we'll start rolling it out before the end of the Summer. If you're an 8c user and you'd be interested in being one of the first to try uBACCH, please send us an email at [email protected].

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Keith!
Hello Martin, If D&D is still offering trial versions of the BACCH filter I'd very much like to add my name to the list. Gabriel J. and I have dialed in my system, and with recently added Townshend Podiums and a dedicated 20amp circuit the 8C's sound sublime.

And suddenly my potential ownership of 8c got more real. Nice

Hello Martin,

I've been following the progress of BACCH for several years and made my purchase of 8c's well before any rumors of your partnership with Theoretica.

After adding a dedicated 20 amp circuit and Townshend Podiums, adding BACCH to the 8c's would be the sweetest cherry on top!

I'd be overjoyed to be one the first wave of users.

Well I like it!
Everyone will, I don’t see or hear any disadvantages it’s just more holographic.
It’s really cool.
Keith
