A reference system designed for short listening distances and small rooms costs orders of magnitude less than one designed for large spaces.

Here at home I love my DIY active KEF's because they are so linear and smooth. In the end, this is what keeps me the most satisfied. This was one of the reasons I bought Gedlee Summas over Lambda Unity horns. I'd argue the Unity horns imaged better and the treble was cleaner, but the Gedlee Summas can be listened at ridiculously loud levels without fatigue.

When I met Earl Geddes at RMAF in 2005, I noticed that I'd practically lost my voice by the end of the day. The reason? The Summas get loud effortlessly.

This part is subjective, but I think the cabinet itself is the secret. Those Summa cabinets are like a piece of granite, they are ridiculously inert. A combination of plywood, foam and carbon fiber. If they were made out of wood they'd weight 300lbs. They're insane.

IMHO, people focus too much on the waveguide in speakers and not enough attention to the cabinet.

The Lambdas are very nice, and they image like a champ, but the Summa is a like an iron fist in a velvet glove. Strong as marble.

Otherwise the statement would have been something to the effect of "wrong price, but you will be happy to learn the real price"
