Dutch & Dutch 15C Discussion

Is that the fan?

. The fact that D&D think they need to be scares me.

Why? I have a Crown Amp I use for my LFE and it has a fan as well. It almost never comes on unless I am listening to an LFE heavy movie at volume. When it does it's on low speed and is not audible unless the movie goes completely quiet. For Pro use it would be on all the time. Sounds like a good idea just in case kind of like belt and suspenders. Would you rather cook an amp?

Rob :)

I have a Crown amp (XLS1502) and have never heard the fans. I love the "show must go on" mentality of pro stuff; I've read that if it overheats it will reduce power output rather than switch off.

I can only speak to the 8c as I have not heard the 6c or the 15c, but the 8c speakers have exceeded my hopes and expectations.
I heard the 6c, 8c and 15c at Axpona this year and the 8c last year. I agree that listening to the 8c last year made me a believer in active speakers and cardioid dispersion. All 3 speakers sounded great with varying degrees of spl / room pressurizing capabilities.

If a speaker has a price tag of 130000 a pair, it is by definition a luxury product. It sounds great, yet it's horribly ugly. Black, plastic ugliness has nothing to do with luxury.

No. Ugliness is not a matter of taste.

You are not buying a darn painting. It is a speaker and looks pretty nice in person, albeit, rather big. Plenty of luxury buyers would get it to show off how loud and clean it plays to their buddies.

Despite the looks, it feels like it's not supported by these stands (it may well be, but we as people always have the "lean on them" as a stability, intuitive measure.
And most importantly for looks, these stands throw away any meaning of proportion, it looks like a balancing, dangerous act.

Four-legged stands would suit them way better.

It's a prototype, those may not be the final stands. Or you get the subwoofer add-on and it sits on those.

I like the looks but then I like the looks of those speakers Amir posted up too so probably no hope for me.

If you're spending 130K you can afford to get any style of stand you like the look of.

If that price is to be true I wonder - why?! I get why Genelec 8381A would cost around 70.000 EUR/pair but this... is just a jump on the luxury train?

If I could afford it and wanted to deafen my buddies impressively with highest clean SPL, I'd rather build a basic Dolby Atmos system solely based on JBL M2 (that's right, you can also hang them^^) + SUB18 and treat that room properly with lots of absorbers, so they won't be deafened by the unwanted room reflections; probably for the same price. And this deafening session
would definitely be much more impressive in comparison! :D

I'm trying to make rational decisions, so I believe the D&D 15C would anyways not be for me.

At least expectations are there this might be the first really good luxury speaker (I'm not considering Genelec a luxury brand). Although I'd expect a much more luxuriously looking finish then... and the stands as an extra purchase option of course (just kidding on the last part).

Personally I think they look great. But hey, I like the look of the Genelec 8381As. Most don't.

They are definitely on my lottery win, speaker shortlist.
So, probably Genelec 8381As for the main ballroom.

Definitely have a pair in another primary listening room tho.

What's the price threshold at which a tool becomes a luxury product? 130k? 100k? 13k? 1.3k?
