Dutch & Dutch 15C Discussion

When I look at the height of the speakers with the stands, I wonder what kind of chair would be required to align the listener's ear with the tweeter.
Or maybe you can tilt them forward a bit.
Well they obviously aren't made for nearfield

That's why I asked
It makes sense to finally have an official price
I think the ole adage (if you have to ask, you can't afford them) comes into play here.
But curiosity isn't what killed the cat, I think? :p

This is true but for a retail product if the answer to “how much is it?” is “make me an offer”, there are lots of other speakers out there.

The 15c sounded phenomenal. Its dynamic capability is something that’s extremely satisfying. But it’s obviously not for everyone. For example, I don’t have any room in my house for them and while the 15c was a very fun to listen to, my salon/gotham combo is plenty loud for my space.

They are onto something though with the 15c halo level speaker and also they were very gracious hosts. I’m exhausted after two days though - hard to believe they are doing this for a 3rd day. Enjoy!

I was at Axpona yesterday. We checked out the 8c, 6c, and then went down to the lobby to see the 15c. I immediately laughed about how gigantic they are in comparison to the others. They did sound good, even in the noisy lobby area.

We are all very curious of your second listening experiences now:D
It's combination of accuracy and playback level is in entirely different class. It was stunning in every possible way. Nice folks running the company as well.

And I'm just as sure they would fulfill my wife's audio nightmare
If you can afford these and the proper place to put them, the cost of the divorce might be inconsequential. ;)

The D&D guys were demonstrating the sheer power of the 15c’s at the end of the show today. The amount of bass and the quality of the bass these speakers were able to generate was very impressive.

I knew the dimensions before seeing by them but they somehow appeared larger than I expected. They are massive! My house is pretty big but probably not big enough for the 15C. The guys from D&D were also super cool. Great show!

For all normal mortals, those who want a stereo for a home, these are absurd.
You say that like it's a bad thing...

They sounded absurdly good within their coverage area; outside of their coverage area of course the subwoofer region was totally dominant, BUT that in itself is a testament to how well-controlled the radiation pattern was with the waveguide + cardioid-loaded midwoof.

The SPL capability demonstrated and the low-end impact and power WITHOUT the benefit of boundary reinforcement from the walls was more than I would have expected. Yes it has two highly capable 15" subwoofer cones BUT the amount of internal volume devoted to the subs was arguably on the small side for two 15" woofers, which implies that a LOT of EQ was needed, especially given the lack of nearby walls. And when you're talking about (presumably) kilowatts, that can add up to lot of heat especially in a smallish sealed enclosure. So my guess is that some of the design choices went into thermal management so that heat itself would not become a premature limiting factor

Nope, not how it works... actually it is to the contrary. If you're poor, a divorce costs almost nothing.
Oh, it'll be consequential. Ask Jeff Bezos what a divorce costs.

Oddball what Dirac ART does, I don’t think it’s needed for active speakers with cardioid. That’s the beauty of them, that they consider the room.

The 6c and 8c, in their rooms ie not very good hotel rooms, sounded amazing. Very similar tone but bigger scale with the 8c and both speakers have excellent bass. The 15c, while being in the middle of a giant hotel lobby may have challenges that cannot be overcome by any active speaker or active room treatment, if they were put in one of the giant conference rooms, I’m sure we’d be blown away. Even in the hotel lobby, I think it’ll be an amazing experience.
Doesn’t this depend on what frequency range a speaker is cardioid?

The last gossip is that 15c:
  • is reasonably flat from 15 Hz to 20 kHz
  • has 11000 W of external amps
  • weighs 140 kg per speaker
  • costs 130 grand
TBH, even if D&D don't sell any of these, they must be worth it as a marketing tool for the more accessible products, there's been a lot of online buzz.

Also fun to see Amir and Erin squidged onto the same sofa.

It demonstrates the level of commitment that Dutch & Dutch has demonstrated to making this a statement loudspeaker. Very rigorously designed subwoofer drivers. Purpose designed for the volume available in the enclosure.

That you were impressed by their sound in a Hotel lobby brings a big smile to my face.

P.S. Nice catch that only the front firing driver is a cardioid pattern.
