Dutch & Dutch 15C Discussion

6c sounded small. There are many small speakers at the show which were better

??

Presumably they were not in a living room?

What something sounds like at a show carries no real weight.

They can hardly ever be optimally set up, and room sizes, dimensions and positions are largely random.

Add to that the incessant noise… and I’d be happy to say there’s no worse place to listen to speakers.

… perhaps a busy metropolitan train station, or airport.

I only compare them with other small speakers at the show. All of them use similar rooms

Oddball what Dirac ART does, I don’t think it’s needed for active speakers with cardioid. That’s the beauty of them, that they consider the room.

The 6c and 8c, in their rooms ie not very good hotel rooms, sounded amazing. Very similar tone but bigger scale with the 8c and both speakers have excellent bass. The 15c, while being in the middle of a giant hotel lobby may have challenges that cannot be overcome by any active speaker or active room treatment, if they were put in one of the giant conference rooms, I’m sure we’d be blown away. Even in the hotel lobby, I think it’ll be an amazing experience.
Actually they can not do a thing like ART. They do have a low base management which is amazing, but really nothing like ART. In rare circumstances that would not be the case as with @Mort, but in larger setups there is nothing like ART, or much more complicated DBA or Trinnov wawe forming setups.

The 15c looks a lot smaller today. It’s crazy how you get used to the looks.

I did. It was a noisy situation with modest volume
What i did hear was excellent.
The 15c's are in the lobby with a ton of people moving around, and still sounded absolutely incredible. There's a magic there. Big woofage matters. Bravo to the Dutch!
(They look ridiculous)

This whole idea that small speakers can be made to sound like big speakers - just add a sub! - needs to die.
Correct. You need two subs.

A 15" driver just moves more air physically and more easily. After hearing my friends 15" Tannoy"s and coming back to my stereo 2 x 6inch bass/mids no comparison.

Four 15" inch drivers in one cabinet has to be heard to be believed. I will probably never hear them but the potential for these new speakers is huge.

It makes sense to place the 15Cs in the lobby
Should the need arise, they can be used to open the front doors

Good times at AXPONA

Your just getting used to seeing them. :p

There's much to what you say. It's only the guys with small -----speakers that try to deny the fact that size matters. :) All other things being equal, you want a lot of deep bass with low distortion in a big room, you need to move a LOT of air, you can't change the laws of physics. So big drivers capable lots of excursion are the order of the day. Maybe I'll get a chance to hear these at next Feb Tampa show and they'll have a better display area than a hallway. Just to remember they didn't reinvent the wheel here, just packaged known physics demands with modern DSP and packaged it all up in one HUGE box. KOOL
If only I had the home and deep pockets they might be on my "maybe" list.

When I look at the height of the speakers with the stands, I wonder what kind of chair would be required to align the listener's ear with the tweeter.
Or maybe you can tilt them forward a bit.
