They are totally different, for different use-cases
The Daytons are suitable for high SPL - great for movies
The LaVoce are budget PA speakers, they are great for music but not really suitable if you need high SPL below 40Hz. Even for music I would use at least 4 of them

hello and congrats on the build, looks really good!

I am interested in your design philosophy with regards to room gain!

you stated something like"room gain is +15db at 24hz, so the -15db point is 0db in reality"

does this mean that you factor in the room gain already during design stage and designed it to roll off so that the -15db point was exactly at the same freq that the room gain increases by 15db???

This sounds super smart and i have not read about this approach before (but i am a noob).

Can you please expand on this and correct me if my assumption is wrong? would like to learn since i am planning on building something similar (but with reckhorn d250 or d200 drivers) and when simulating it is really difficult to get a f3 below 30hz

Yes, that is correct!

Whenever I design speakers into a specific room, I measure the room first: I place the mic in the planned listening position, place some existing speakers (that go reasonably low) in the planned speakers position (can be/shall be multiple) and use them to measure the room response

Then I can tell how the new, to-be-built speaker will behave in that particular room, in those positions

This way I can tell that in my living room there is a huge +15dB peak at 24Hz - this basically means that I can place almost whatever speaker there, they will go down to 24Hz :)

We used the same approach in a different room in this project: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/diy-2-2-living-room-project.57939/

wow thanks for the quick reply and detailed description of your approach, as i noted earlier that's really super smart and i guess one of the perks of diy when you can tailor it to your room in such a way! i must measure my rooms now before i make any fruther decisions on builds haha

Oh ok Now understand. Once last question my dealer has Peerless 830452 10" XLS drivers in stock at a decent price. Dayton is higher priced for me and its 8" where as peerless is 10" can you suggest if this peerless simulates well. whast your view

If you plan to put them in a sealed box you can use a 15 liter cabinet
The xmax limited max power will be 500W and that will provide you with 99.5dB at 1 meter at 25Hz

what dealer is this if i might ask haha? 30 liters for a dual opposed sub sounds fantastic, i would go for 4 of these (8 drivers total) then integrated into a 4 way floor standing stereo pair (living room situation, multiple spread out subs is a no go from mrs)

15 litre for dual opposed ?
15 liter each
So 30 liter for a DOS config
And in that case you will need 1000W to take them to xmax (at 20Hz)

And that will give you 103dB SPL at 1 meter
