Which headphones are better suited for writing beats and arrangements?

900 is open, 700 is closed. If you don't need a closed one get the 900 as it is a more revealing regarding soundstage.

There are better options than both these headphones with lower distortion and smoother frequency response. If you need open back, look to the Sennheiser 600 series. If you want closed, try the AKG 361/371.

DT 900 pro X is a decent set of cans, got me into the hobby. Really good sub bass extension for an open back but it's not a boosted bass if that's what you're after. Only complaints I had about the pair is that it's not a very detailed set of cans and the clamp is worse than HD6xx series from Sennheiser. I preferred the HD 600 over all but I don't listen to a lot of music with much sub-bass.
