DSD PCM playback

Hello, friends!

I purchased Marantz NR 1604, already have a pair of Polk T15 bookshelf speakers and a Topping D10 DAC.

Planning to create a home audio system and really excited about it.

I'm waiting for the receiver to arrive.

Until I get the whole 7.1 system together, will be listening to stereo.

Receiver doesn't support DSD playback, and need to convert DSD to PCM, so I'd like to figure out how to play DSD files using foobar2000.

What should the connection be:

PC - DAC - CD IN on the receiver and Pure Direct mode

or

PC via HDMI - GAME HDMI or AUX HDMI input?

Can anyone help me figure this out?

Both connections should allow you to listen to DSD files from the PC:

PC - DAC - CD IN on the receiver and Pure Direct mode
With this connection, I believe you can send the DSD over USB from the PC to your DAC, which will then convert the DSD to analog and send (using the 'line out' from your DAC) to your receiver. You are limited to 2 channels.

PC via HDMI - GAME HDMI or AUX HDMI input
With this connection, you send PCM from your PC (transcode DSD to PCM in PC) over HDMI to receiver. I think any HDMI port will work. With this connection you can do 2ch and also multichannel such as 5.0 or 5.1. Also with this connection bass management and room correction can be done in digital domain such as with a 2.1 system (two bookshelf speakers plus a subwoofer) or 5.1. With this connection, you don't use the Topping D10 DAC, and instead you let the receiver be the DAC.

I would like to clarify the first option with using a DAC.
In this case, do I get native 2 channel DSD?

You can do native DSD with the Topping. Topping > CD IN on receiver

You might have to install the Topping software driver as well so Foobar knows which ASIO device to use. Look for the software on topping website support and check your DAC model.
