Dr. Toole's 4th Edition Book is Coming! (Discount)

Not a fan of gatekeeping in the sense of having a test before someone can post.

I am a fan of science, and feel it is fair game to call out posts that lack rigor.

I can see recommending particular chapters in Toole’s book to particular posters, who would benefit from the information contained there.

I suppose that happens. To be clear that is not what I’m talking about.

And that is not an accurate use of the term "gatekeeping" by these straw people, so I guess they are doubly wrong.

It does happen, so you have to be able to tell when referring to knowledge as 'gatekeeping', is just bad faith/sour grapes.

Ebook is downloadable in the USA.

I was going to display the book cover on my phone also, but I needed that to take the photo....

Notice how coffee and old-man tremors can overpower image stabilization DSP efforts.

I received my copy today. It's a substantially different book. The writing is a lot more personal and plain. I think it was clearly written with a different audience in mind. Not engineers but consumers of audio. Regular audiophiles and the like.

Thanks for the reminder. Downloaded.

I’ll probably buy the paper one to browse through too. But as a reference nothing beats a searchable copy.

Received mine today, pretty dense tome. Was worried for a bit since it shipped ahead of the October 28th promise date, thinking I might get the 3rd edition again, but all is right with the world.

Call me old fashion, brought the paperback just right now. I would have love the eBook too so that I can easily do text search, but reading for hours on the computer screen is a strain on my eyes and too cheap to buy both.

Speaking of good books, I also highly recommend The Science of Sound by Rossing, Moore and Wheeler, but you better brush up on geometry, cal 1, 2, 3 and 4 before you proceed. Super technical and advanced, it is not a book that you would read cover to cover, you pick the chapters that you want to learn about to read. Probably college level 200/300 text book.

If you wish for a simple explanation as to why we love music, along with a smidgeon of technicalities then I can recommend this, it’s cheap on amazon and the audio book is worth a listen as it has an immersive experience with additional music to highlight sections of the text
