I don't know about you but I am quite anxious to get my hands on the much expended 4th edition of Dr. Toole's book:

Sound Reproduction: The Acoustics and Psychoacoustics of Loudspeakers, Rooms and Headphones

As you see there (sorry couldn't find a sharper image), two of our other dear researchers, Dr. Olive and Todd Welti have contributed to it.

Audio education doesn't get any better than this folks. For the price of two fast food meals for two, you can learn so much!

Did you mean "anticipated" rather than "expended", perhaps?

In any case, thanks for the link and the heads up. Definitely a must buy (and read!).

Edit: Expanded, somehow I didn't think of the simple typo rather than an autoincorrect error.

No, I meant expanded. It is supposed to have more content in it, courtesy of contributions from Dr. Olive and Todd Welti. It is a major revision.

I have no issue reading english, but hey, for 536 pages I'd like to have an italian edition, I'll check on it when te time comes.
Thank you for advertising it.

There is a discount available for the publisher, but the book can't be ordered until October.

Lucky that you had the book with you at the time.

But what did he sound like? Any good?

I always carry it around, lol. If seriously, I knew I was going to meet with him and brought the book. We had a brief chat, he said he’s still involved with the industry. I thought he had a good sense of humor. That’s about it. It was a semi-random encounter.

What is new in this edition?
This revised edition includes:

  • Sections on two-channel stereo, headphones, binaural listening and DIY multiple-subwoofer solutions to room resonance problems
  • Measurable performance guidelines for loudspeaker designers
  • Criteria for the selection of timbrally neutral loudspeakers and headphones using industry-standard measurements
  • Guidance for how best to employ loudspeakers in stereo and multichannel formats in small rooms with problematic bass resonances
  • Advice on identifying and separating the recording and playback factors that influence sound quality and the spatial/enveloping perceptions that contribute to our satisfaction

OK, ok, take down that photo wall! ;) Just kidding!

I wonder how much new material is in this edition? I'll stay subscribed to this thread in the hope that it will remind me to order it once it is available for preorder.

Isn't that just a bullet point list of the whole book or specifically the new sections only? I'd say these were already covered when I've read snippets of previous versions.

Awesome, looking forward to this. I hope I can get a free PDF copy via my university again

Funny fact, I accidentally found out Dr. Toole lives in my neighborhood. I even met him once on occasion and he signed my copy of his book. Small world.
I live in Ottawa too. Which area of the city?

I’m in the Los Angeles area. Harman has a big site in Northridge just north of LA. Isn’t it where he was based when he worked for Harman? Not sure.

You are my neighbor too then. I live behind the Old Place off Mulholland Hwy.
