Happy to hear this.
Well deserved.

Floyd Toole and @amirm really made a difference to my insight and enjoyment.
I hope I can contribute a bit by posting on the forums. It's a great community.

Kudos to this great researcher. As a Canadian I'm proud of the honor he is receiving.

I have a twinge of emotion here. Here's a small story regarding my minor personal interaction with Dr. Toole.

My interest in hi-fi goes 'way back. In the early '70s I read an article somewhere (?) by Dr. Toole while he was working at the NRC. I sent a letter asking a short question regarding his findings. Lo & behold Dr. Toole had the grace to sent me a personal letter in response to my question.

Sadly I can't remember my question, (which was probably pretty dumb), nor Dr. Toole's response. It was more than 50 years ago. If I still have Dr. Toole's letter it will take a great deal of rummaging to find; I have relocated several times in the interim and things tend to get lost in that process.

This is really quite an honor. Three cheers for Dr. Toole!!

Congratulations! I'm curious if his findings will now convince some [Edit: subjectivist] audiophiles!

Congratulations Floyd on your nomination and appointment to Member of the Order of Canada.

I am, along with many here it seems, actually quite excited on your behalf!

I also want to thank you for your post-career contributions on ASR and other non-professional audio forums. Your patience and educational approach have been invaluable to many of us.

Really deserved, the positive impact of his work in the improvement of audio reproduction and understanding is matchless and this combined with a unique kind and helpful way to make even hard topics easier to understand, I cannot not thank him enough.

Is this the book to buy?

Sound Reproduction: The Acoustics and Psychoacoustics of Loudspeakers, Rooms and Headphones (Audio Engineering Society Presents)

Thank you...

Yes, 4th edition now.

I'd like to echo Newman's comments especially his citing of Dr. Toole's 'patience and educational approach' as being invaluable. His technical achievements have greatly advanced the art as we have seen. But I also believe his thoughtful efforts to make his work accessible and understandable to audiophiles and enthusiasts (via his books, lectures, and online presence) to be quite commendable!

Sitting here, misting up with Canadian pride, nostalgia, and respect for the man who helped pioneer that which has been my passionate hobby for 45 years. Dr. Toole’s book has sat on my bedside shelf for years.
Well deserved. Congratulations.
