hi I just ordered one, it seems like it has every possible feature you'd want in a desktop sized analog preamp! Can you let us know why 250hz and 180hz was chosen as the subwoofer low pass filter options? it seems high, people usually cross around 80hz. I have a muse dual opamp I can install when it arrives for fun

I just set up the H5 preamp, wow this thing is amazing! It sounds as good as my way more expensive preamp(don't want to name it because it's also a great brand). this thing is really tiny and saves a ton of space in my desk setup vs my other full size preamp. I already put in a MUSE 02 opamp before first use.

And why a need to change op amps?

Why a low pass filter when most subwoofers have that built in? Where's the high pass filter which is what is really needed? Plus those frequency choices are really weird.

the 250 and 180hz low passes work as 5.2V and 3.6V output settings, I think that's the use of the switch. man I'm really loving the sound of this preamp, the tubes are doing their tube thing really well. I kind of bought this preamp as a utility preamp for when I'm in between main full size preamps but it sounds so good I'm just using it as a main preamp for my desk setup

Because owners want tubes and want to change op-amps ... to improve the sound quality as we all know that's what tubes and op-amps do.

Spoiler: sound only passes through the tubes and replaceable op-amps

let's not draw attention to the 8 non-replaceable op-amps as they are not important for the sound

Where there is a demand the market follows.

An important design feature would be to have the op-amps socketed on the top of the case. This allows easy and "screwless op-amp rolling (TM)", so, for example, if it was Wednesday you could drop in extra imaging, on Saturday have bass lift. Or whatever is needed that is audible....

The 50k B-taper (linear) for volume control is a bit weird and should be A-taper (log) but one can easily turn a linear potmeter into a somewhat more usable semi-log taper with a 5k1 resistor. Could also be that pot is used with a volume control IC (but don't see one).
Otherwise it seems a reasonable neat design and even has MM phono input option.
Too bad the tube buffer can not be disabled.

What the heck is this effects box doing on ASR, which is arguably the worst platform to present it? I appreciate it's a subjectivists dream, but if valves are going to be used, do the effing thing properly - same with use of op-amps, which ordinarily don't need valves at all!
