Some do it to make money. Some do it because they are afraid not to (as to get the wrath of subjectivist audiophiles). Some don't know any better.Also consider Geshelli where they sell DACs that can be shipped w different op amps or their stock OPAs (Different prices depending on op amp)
Are these companies all doing this just to separate a guy and his money? (I've got a wife who does that already...)
Currently, this is a feature that is easy to add. Put some sockets in there and that gives you a marketing bullet. I don't blame them for this. But don't go thinking they have somehow proven this.
