Don't install the new Sonos App update

Cool - I assume you connect direct to wifi (not sonosnet). I wonder if the newer products and older products don't play a nicely together .. I tried using our mesh for the network and it was very unstable . Had to go back to Sonosnet.

Happy it's working for you .
I believe so, yes. I haven't don't anything specific to force any of the devices to connect any particular way, but pretty sure they all have their own individual connection back to the mesh WiFi system, either to the router or any one of various satellites.

New update on the app 11 hours ago to fix some bugs and enable use of their new headphones ;)

The only useful thing it does for me is to allow an entire folder to play from a local library. The previous version only played the file of the track you selected . Yes it was that poor !

Luckily my local music is organised into alphabetic sub folders a-c, d-f etc so it's not as painful as scrolling endlessly through album / artist names as Sonos would need me to with their functionality,

I guess they needed to get the new app out in time for the headphone release, but it doesn't explain why they didn't keep both versions running in parallel for a while until they could fill the most egregious gaps in functionality.

As someone with a recent interest in their products, reading about that fiasco doesn't inspire confidence. I hope they're able to resolve it.

It's the second time - they released a new app a while back that would have made older speakers unusable. There was such an outcry Sonos created an S1 app that would continue to support older systems. The S2 app was newer products.

Seems like a no brainier to keep S2 and bring in S3 with some kind of transition period.

My system is a little more stable today from a connectivity perspective. Not perfect but better. Perhaps the code needed to burn in?

To be fair I have speakers that are 7 years old and going strong.

So - a day after the latest app fixes my system is more stable. Tons of useful functionality is still missing that was there before.

I am getting used to the way the app itself works . Is it better - don't think so, just different. Sideways step at best. Certainly not worth the downgrade in functionality and hassle ..

Just to keep this thread ticking along - I am no longer able to access any locally stored music through the app. That's 000s of CDs.

The menu has disappeared from the app Home Screen. There are no setup options to add a music share.

Imagine you invested a lot of money in Sonos to play your own CDs and that most basic function is gone - totally lame.

Others reporting the same on Sonos Community.

I can stream from Qobuz but that rather misses the point .

The music server functionality works from the desktop app. Guess I will just have to carry my laptop around with me :)

And the shits of it is Sonos usually makes app updates mandatory to use the system.

I tried reverting to normal wifi today instead of using Sonosnet. Complete train wreck !

We have a powerful TP Link Deco router (XE200) I turned off the satellite router to avoid mesh issues, booted each Sonos in turn and the system quickly struggled to stream to two rooms. The router is in the same place as the Sonos Boost. I've hardwired the Boost and gone back to Sonosnet and all is well again.

It's so weird. Since the new devices are wifi only I shall be hanging onto my old gear!

i wouldn't touch that junk with a barge pole

i have only worked with sonos on their professional end.... ie. their elevator music and 'dollar general' store tunes... and they work ok

i cannot fathom how this company would rush out an update like this.. they know they would get animosity from customers who are used to having "XYZ" features and now they have none - and this is on the back of a string of anti consumer decisions

these guys think they are apple... or microsoft... or broadcom vmware

i think this company is an example of "fish rotting from the head down"

the c-suite wants to test the waters and see how far customer loyalty goes

they have for the most part, a decent product but they keep prodding to see how far they can take things

So disappointing. Sonos goes from being the best of the best to the complete opposite on a 5 year cycle.

Grrr. Just fix it asap! Please!

I was shocked when it came out without play queue/play next. Stability wise it seems to have settled now after a few hairy days, although have had a few network changes so they might be to blame. Good old airplay to the rescue over that interim period.
Hard call for whoever prioritised pushing this out early to be able to release their headphones.

For my birthday yesterday my wife bought me a Sonos Era 300, I already had a beam 2 and have a small home cinema room with projector set up so thought I would be able to link things with no issues.

Boy that mandatory app update is infuriating, the voice assistant cannot be set up, the Trueplay set up crashes on the Ipad and tried the apparent fix with zero success, even on Android it only has the basic TruePlay set up option.
This is before I even look at setting up a link to play songs from my PC on the network, even the PC app functionality has no set up features, just a bog standard library.

Sonos need to get their act together and stop these mandatory updates.

Frustrating way to spend a Birthday...

That sucks, I'm really sorry to hear about your problems. Mine is stable in the sense that it plays (once the app finally connects to speakers), but the music library link appears briefly and then goes awol. We always used the sleep timer at night to play some music to nod off to - so stupid to drop such a simple, but useful feature...

The network management feature hasn't been added back yet so as I understand it the only way to connect to a different network (if you use WiFi) is to factory reset every device and start again ... just rubbish.

Well it seems the new Sonos headphone are £450 a pair - ooch. I hope they work better than the app and speakers !
